Crufts

Has anyone been ?

If so, would you go again?

Thinking of going in March next year but not sure it's my kind of thing.

Definitely worth a trip to see all the dogs :D!

    What's bothering you about it?

Yeah go, i'm not into showing but enjoyed it.

The shopping alone can keep you busy :o Lots of different breeds and other dog activities to watch.

Thanks, i'm thinking about it as is another friend.

It's about 4-5 hours drive but we would probably stay over two nights and go to the show the sat and sunday.

I don't know if I am into showing yet , just starting out...

No, I've never been but I enjoy watching it on television. I have been to watch flyball locally and it's brilliant. I can't tell you how much fun it is to watch the beginner dogs who are soooooo excited, they jump out of their lane to grab the tennis ball of the opposing dog. It's chaos but brilliant fun to watch.

If I had tickets for Crufts, I'd definitely want to see flyball.:D

  • it's very informal and I didn't get a snobby feeling. There might have been some "in-fighting" between owners of the same breeds but if so it wasn't apparent to us.

I took my sis for her birthday as she is dog mad. I'm a cat woman but I confess to enjoying Crufts.

Thanks, think I will try go.

Tickets are around £15 and can get accomodation for about £75 between two( for two nights) in Ibis so budget hotel but Money Saving indeed !

Need to work petrol costs but that would be split between two or four.

Well, I am going to go against the grain and say its not 'unmissable ' for me. We go sometimes, mainly to see family friends and their dogs because for showing/ breeding peeps it is a good place to catch up. I find the shopping temptation huge, but.......unnecessary. Lots of things I ave bought have been white elephants.

The thing I really do love always is discover dogs. Again, it's usually people w know on 'our' stand but more importantly, I love looking at the dogs I would have if we had a different life style......which toy I might carry around when I am ancient, which gun dog we would have if we were more active or indeed, went shooting, the wonderful utility dogs I would enjoy were I more energetic.

I've been a few times. I do think that there is a lot of nastiness between the individual breeders (and to be honest I was told this is very true of GSD breeders), but if you are visiting rather than showing I think it's a great experience, and people will be friendly with you.

Do take as much money as you can afford - it's an amazing shopping experience!! Also, to save money, take your own food/lunch as the food stands are very expensive. Also, if you have one, take a trolley or case with wheels - far easier than hundreds of bags!

The last time I went it was to see the Spinones before I got Sid. I got talking to some people who recommended the breeder where I eventually got him.

I went for the first time last year and loved it. Wish I had gone for two days as I missed a lot - probably through spending so much time at the discover dogs section.

I didn't find it snobby at all as a visitor.
