Vanquis took £2400 from me and I've never heard of them?!?

We had someone trying to have a Sky card in our name a while ago, they got our details from a place we had to have them and is publically accessible! I am not sure of the details entirely, but we now have our credit files password protected, no-one can check the main ones without our knowledge, and we know this works because when we bought sofas on interest free credit they could not understand why it was not going through. Alarmingly enough though they forced it through, and we didn't realise why it had gone that way till later! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

To me, it sounds like a good old-fashioned ****-up.
Why it is not possible make/suffer a mistake nowadays without all sorts of conclusions being jumped to ?0 -
It's worth registering with CIFAS which means a note goes on your credit file to say that you believe yourself to be at risk of ID fraud, and anyone trying to open an account in your name (even you) will have to go through extra ID checks.

Someone stole our post last year and the first we knew was Vodafone texting me to say they'd registered my change of address. When I called them, someone had ordered an iPhone on my account to be delivered to a town hundreds of miles away, and then someone put a holiday on DH's credit card. Since getting CIFAS we've had no problems since."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -
Maybe they paid off their or someone elses balance with OP's bank details....... Have you checked your credit report to see if you actually have an account with Vanquis? You can pay anything with debit card details.....0
