Water damaged iPhone

Evening all,

My OH accidentally dropped her iPhone 4 in water, I've been drying it for a few days but it doesn't look good, I've been drying it rice. However it happened whilst away for the weekend so I couldn't remove the battery and leave in rice until 36 hours after 'splash down'.

Chances are its had it. She is now with out a phone. My thoughts are such:
  1. Order a new iPhone 5.
  2. Continue to dry out until the weekend
  3. If the phone repairs recycle via phone recycling for cash
  4. If its damaged trade it as a damaged phone for less.

A few questions though:

Does anyone still buy out contracts? She has 4 months left on her current O2 deal.

Anyone traded in a water damaged phone before?

Thanks in advance.

Them 36 hours prob have killed it, needs to be asap and people Cous cous (or similar) is more absorbent, cover inch of container/bowl place phone ontop & cover with lashings more, put said "meal" high up in airing/boiler cupboard for three/four days (heat rises afterall!) then try switch on.

Might cost more for a big bag than Value rice but its the better deal for those who stand to lose hundreds of pounds for anyone to note for the future ;) Make sure use use loads of cous cous :)

The expensive alternative is the jelly crystals for plants that expand with moisture, you need a big tupperware box with lid with a few seperate box helpings of the crystals (dry out used ones while new ones are absorbing) keep repeating process till crystals in tub no longer absorb any moisture, same warm place applies as above with cous cous.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Call o2 see if they will upgrade early, given its a i5 you want & they want you not to leave for another 24 months you might strike gold.

Otherwise, get a cheap payg phone for now, in 3 months give 30 days notice and request a PAC, use it on the day before it expire to another network and vote with your feet with one finger in the air ;)

Could try take it to genius bar and say it just stopped working & don't know why. Never know, they may replace- stranger things have happened
  • They check if it's had any water damage.. if it does, they won't replace the phone :/
