Does a P.O. get a % of every transaction they make?

Is that how Post Offices work? Does a percentage of every transaction go to the person running the P.O.....

Sub post offices are effectively franchises, the owner is paid a salary by the Post Office, although PO salaries vary from office to office and are calculated on the basis of the volume of business carried out.

Crown post offices are run directly by the Post Office itself.

I tried buying some large letter stamps the other day but I got some explanation about things having to go through the machines or something and that delivery would be delayed. Basically they refused to sell me any. Do they make more if they print out postage labels?

Depends on the contract type, there are a few different ones. The four main ones are Crown, SPSO, Main and Local.

As for the leaving parcels and paying the next day thing, Post Office does not like Agents doing that as they are giving customers credit with the Post Offices money.

Its fine to leave parcels and cash to cover it and pick up the change the next day though.

LOL. I do it in my village post office, especially at Christmas. You can only get two people inside so everyone would be queing in the rain if I didn't.

The post mistress has told me that she is salaried and doesn't get a % of the postage sold but is still grateful for the volume because if the village ever gets a bus service then the PO would consider closing the branch. (PO are obligated to keep it going, part-time, at the moment).
