Does a P.O. get a % of every transaction they make?

Is that how Post Offices work? Does a percentage of every transaction go to the person running the P.O.
Just wondering as I am really fed up with my village Post Office and have started using one in the next village - the difference in service I get is huge!

Not terribly au fait with how the sub POs work but have worked in a local shop to which one was attached. I was under the impression they were run as a franchise, which means someone runs it as a business in their interests but is licensed to do so by the Post Office and do it according to guidelines, a bit like how McDonalds or Subway outlets are run. RM is a separate business which handles mail.
Custardy will probably know for sure if he's around, however.
If you have problems with service anywhere, be it an eBay seller, an offline shop, or a PO, then the most powerful thing you can do is take your business elsewhere. Sellers of any description only answer to themselves if they manage to annoy their customers so much they go elsewhere. Sometimes, unfortunately, the only time they realise is when they go out of business."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

a percentage of stamps yes, and a percentage of currency/ travel insurance & mobile top ups.
everything else has a fixed price - so printing a first class label pays the same whether it is for a £1.20 large letter, or a 5kg 1st class parcel. car tax/ bill payments etc are all a fixed payment - so a free tax disc attracts the same payment as a £600 one.
How up to date many offices are is another question. i.e. I have seen offices try to upsell from a standard parcel (£5.30) to first class or recorded. Yet a standard parcel pays the office more :rotfl:.
generally speaking postage is split into two elements - a payment for whatever the label is (1st, 2nd/ recorded etc), and a payment for accepting it. So with ebay postage/ franking etc that first element is always lost.
Any of you ebayers are welcome in our office0 -
Some just get a fiixed wage. You can tell those ones - they don't want your Ebay custom.0

I don't think it could ever be worked out, or even estimated, but it would be really interesting to know how much the PO has made out of ebay since it first started.

I was wondering how much they pay out for 'missing item' claims. I'm sure they must be paying out ££££s more since Ebay started!0 -

I suspect the actual claims going in are such a minuscule percentage of the turnover as to be barely noticed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So when I walked into my local Post Office with 4 children under 5 and 23 x 2nd class large letter and parcels yesterday of all sorts of different shapes and sizes was he pleased to see me for my custom or should I have gone to the grumpy one in the next village to annoy him?
The bit I hate is turning round to face the queue which by then has reached the door

Oh no! I feel for you! I have 4 small children and there is no way I could carry on with my Ebay business if I had to queue - both the post offices I use are very happy with me leaving a bag of parcels in the morning and paying for them the next day.0 -

I time it usually so I don't need to queue but there is always a long queue to the door when I leave.I shall ask about leaving them in the morning and paying later. I can work out the cost accurately on 99% of them, just the odd one that's borderline. Thanks
