Stove installation

I am going to be buying a stove and was just wonder about installation costs. I got a quote of £820 for installation including materials. This seemed quite high especially when I am paying £734 for a Charnwood stove. My friends got an excellent kitchen including instalation for just over £2000 by Homebase and I am jsut wondering if I can justify getting a stove installed at that price.
Any information from people with previous experience of a stove installation would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
C

Depends what that installation includes.
Is it a hetas install (i.e. they are also signing it off) or do you then need to pay for the council to sign it off afterwards? (assuming not scotland or NI).
What materials are included?
Does the chimney require a liner?
If so what grade liner are they proposing and how long is it?
Are they insulating the liner and by what methodology?
Does it require the fitter to supply and install fireboard / register plates, cowls, pot hangers, etc?
So they need to adjust the fireplace in any way shape or form / make it good?
Also taking in to account time of year, this is when you'll pay the most due to the simple factor of supply / demand.
So mostly questions before answers i'm afraid0 -
FWIW, I am paying £390 for installation/sign off including supplying register plate etc. I have laid hearth and stove is ready to go etc. I just don't want to get up on the roof and bed in the cowl, fix some loose bricks etc!
I have supplied the pipe, liner, adaptor and cowl which cost me about £300.
I have also paid £600 for my Charnwood C-Four stove and approx £200 for full rendering/replastering needed.0 -
you can't compair a kitchen install with a stove install they are two totally different thingsI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
I doubt anyone can answer without details. Chimney liner? Bungalow? 2 storey house? Hearth? Remove old hearth? Open out builder's opening? And so on.southcoastrgi wrote: »you can't compair a kitchen install with a stove install they are two totally different things
Yes, even I can distinguish a kitchen from a stove. They really are quite different once you get used to seeing them.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -

I live in a semi detached, two story house which has an existing chimney. The chimney hasn't been used in over 10 years.
The quote was for everything including chimney liner. They are registered installers. I am from NI and we don't have HETAS her, I believe.
The fireplace needs the surround removed and arrows of single brick either side.0 -
I don't think that is high. I live in southern England, where prices are not cheap, and I got quoted from £1,800 to almost £3,000. This covered: new granite inner hearth, new granite outer (cosmetic) hearth, liner (bungalow), plaster repairs around fireplace, fitting of Charnwood C4 stove with multifuel option. The stove cost was £700. I paid separately to have a very large stone surround and cosmetic hearth removed.
I was surprised at the variation in price. It seemed to depend largely on how posh the area was, and whether or not the people had to subcontract out work, or do it all in house.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Thanks again. Advice has been very helpful and is steering me in the right direction.0

I'd say that was a good price. A certain big stove installer up here in the NW wanted more the that just for the flue0
