My post office keeps putting items through as large letters that are not. When i mentioned it - she said don't worry - royal mail are not allowed to question post added by the Post office.

I've tried explaining that the BUYERS might - but she can't understand why i shake my head when she is saving me money.

Again i think its time ebay gave the seller dashboard more prominence - i'd never heared of it until i got hit with the email from Ebay. The top of the my ebay screen and emails to all ebayers telling them to look at it would be a good start. Mention this when you speak to the nasty people.
  • I normally do all my postage online, so my mum can drop it off for me and get the proof of postage stamped so it is probably me who has been more cautious about using large letter.

I think as well as making the dashboard more prominent, I don't find it that easy to understand
Thanks for you time and experience

If you used Paypal for your online postage, then the cost of the stamp doesn't show, which means your buyers don't know how much the postage actually cost, and the result is that something you've paid £2.20 to post, could have gone as a large letter costing £1.10, the buyer won't know you've paid more than you needed to, they'll just see it as being over charged.
If you had got your postage from the PO, the price is printed on the stamp, for your customers to see, and your package will be sent in the correct format

I do it via the royal mail site so buyers will be able to see what I've paid. In the odd circumstance where I have over estimated the weight of an item I have always refunded the difference. In fact in my nearly 900 feedback the most prominent comment is the speed at which things were delivered!!! I'm just starting to trawl through and see whether it is worth trying to speak to ebay. So far on 4 pages of feedback only one has mentioned that they thought postage was slightly high!

I have 2 negatives from this time last year- looking back I should have asked for them to be removed as ebay ruled in my favor as the buyer couldn't return them in their original condition.

    hindsight is a wonderful thing!!!

    Thanks again everybody

  • Your account is banned and it is very unlikely that you can get it back no matter how many times you phone Ebay. The email you receive is just worded a bit nicer than "banned".

At the end of the day, Ebay do not want bad sellers on their site.
Every buyer who is unhappy with your selling practices may well leave Ebay and never shop on there again and so that affects other sellers too. Hence the bans.

Do not open another account. It will be shut down quicker than you know it and you will find yourself banned from buying too.

This does make me laugh when you say eBay don't want bad sellers but they're quite happy being involved in aiding & abetting for profit margins as they're allowing thousands of counterfeit goods filter through their site every minute of the day!!
  • There are ways to open a new account anonymously and keep it open but by the sounds of the advice Soolin recommended basically having to get on your knees on beg you need to ask yourself is eBay really worth it? Guess it depends what you are selling. Someone like Soolin sells a lot and does well from what i gather but if you are not selling a 'lot' then certainly don't stoop to the level of begging.

You do have a point, but I always like to feel that I have options open to me.

Walking away from eBay now, in a recession when selling has never been so hard might be easy. Thinking long term though, what if the recession ends and online selling takes off even more and 5 years down the line a banned seller sees an opportunity to make money and risks opening a new account only to be banned?

What if they have a child who gets to 18 and decides to run a small eBay business based on a hobby ( as one of my sons did for a few months) and you have to warn them they face losing their account if they live at your address and have the same surname?

I like things left open to do what I want to do which is why I would fight to get an account reinstated.

I don't imagine I will sell on eBay forever and have a new outlet now anyway, but eBay is useful and for very little effort I can keep an income stream coming in.

Valid points and perfectly understandable however quite a few 'what if's'. Perhaps wrongly in some people's eyes, I tend to live for the moment and if I have an idea for a business or money maker I will make it happen so would simply move on in this situation however clearly everyone is different.

I took the decision to move away from selling quite a while ago now and luckily for me it has been a great move but I guess it could have easily gone the other way. Incidentally if you require any help with digital marketing, social media or web design let me know :)
