Account restricted indefinately

Hi
Looking for some help and advice although from my quick read of others situation I may be in a no win situation.

I have tonight received the Account restricted indefinitely email from ebay.

They contacted me a couple of at the start of the summer to say my P & P rating were below what they should (4.7) at that stage I think. I didn't sell anything over the summer but when I started selling (clearing out my daughters winter wardrobe etc) I charged exactly what the postage cost were. A lot of the things I sell are children clothes weighting a lot less than the 700g minimum limit for the £2.20 postage so possibly some people did think it was high but that is Royal Mails rates- nothing I can do about that.

From reading other peoples experiences at that stage I now realized I should have offered free P & P and increased the starting price but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

What happens now- from reading other people things I will not be able to sell for a couple of months then they will allow me to sell a few items a a month (?) but never enough to get it back up?

Can I open a new account ( have nearly 900 positive feedback in my current account) or are you not allowed to do that?

Thanks for your help

AJ

Do not open another account, as eBay will close all accounts for good.

Phone them up & explain the reasons why you've fallen to below standard, along with fact that RM charge £2.70 for packets upto 750g & they may lift the restriction.

Not sure why you thought £2.20 was the minimum you could charge? Most tops I sell, even the adult ones if I wrap them right go for £1.10. Sometimes they've even gone through at 69p. Saying that, I still get marked down on p&p. Think people just like being spiteful because they think it's anonymous which it is to a degree, but you can usually work out who gave you the low stars half the time. That said, you were probably overcharging so would have been marked down for that reason. As for opening another account, not sure on that one, but don't think can once it's been restricted.

What were your stars when you were suspended? Ebay don't release their suspension thresholds - but it may help others.

Not selling will have also affected your account - as good feedback may have dropped off - and not been replaced. You've already realised you should have charged free p&p. Ebay expect an improvement month on month after the warning.

Many items of childs clothing can be fit in a large letter - so maybe some were expecting it to cost £1.10.

When you get back on you must charge no postage until the bad ratings drop off.

I was recently sent a PM on here from someone who wanted to tell my how to get back on Ebay after suspension. I wasn't suspended though. Hopefully - someone will do the same for you.

As above, definitely don't open a new account, get this sorted first. If you have a permanent ban then you need to try and talk that down to a temporary restriction as otherwise it will be impossible to regain your account as the good stars at beginniing of the 12 month perios will fall off and the poor stars will become a higher percentage?

For other people reading this the time to sort out any issues is as soon as you get the first few low stars on your expanded dashboard, get in the habit of watching that on a weekly basis. Once you get the first warning it is almost too late, but try and turn it around. Definitely do to stop selling, that is fatal. You need lots of very good sales with 5* across the board.

OP, phone email, don't email. Apologise and tell them you realise what you did wrong and if you are given the chance to list some items you will turn the account around. Keep phoning, keep trying and they may allow you a few months grace to try again.

As for people telling you how to get back n eBay, that is simple they just tell you to use slightly incorrect personal details and start again, and then each time they catch you and suspend you again , you start up with new details.

  • Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions.... I've never had to phone ebay before- is there a number that is best to use?
From the replies above the just of it seems to be that it depends on who you get at ebay?
While my account is suspended, can I try and contact those who have not left feedback and encourage them to do so?
Techspec and Angie- in relation to kids cloths and using large envelope -on some occasions I have been able to do this and have always refunded the buyer . However although the clothes I'm selling are light as my daughter has got bigger so have the clothes (age -10) and this is more often that not not possible now.
Thanks again all for your help- I'll update

A tip is that some clothes actually do better in a jiffy bag or packed with card in the plastic mailer- very odd I know as that makes it thickish to start with. However the rigid ones often mean the clothes can be packed flatter. I work with people who are brave enough to occasionally sell clothes, and even many adult clothes can go as a large letter with careful packing.

However, all that is for when or if you get your account back, meanwhile you should still have access to your account and if you go through the help system you get a telephone number and a pin number for ebay to call them.
Also what you need to do is a search on your exanded seller dashboard, that is the dangerous thing. How many lows in each category are you showing? If ti is borderline you stand a chance of appealing to ebay, if there are quite a few then it will almost certainly mean your account is lost for good.

  • Not sure I'm understanding my scores properly so would appreciate anyone help on whether this is worth trying to sort out

The only one which is a problem is the P & P
    it says the following:

    Postage and packaging charges 2.00% 3 3.83% 9

    Average is 4.59%

Am I looking at the right things?

    Thanks

I read that as being you are 'allowed' 2.00% and 3 low stars and you actually have 3.83% and 9 lows.

Sorry I can't phrase this nicely, but for a low volume seller that is actually quite appalling. most of us start to panic at about 2 lows in a category, when I once got to 3 on my private account I was distraught (but luckily ebay removed two in their review)

The overall stars are really not that important and you could have survived with anything above 4.4 quite easily, and even managed to go lower and face just a short period of restriction.

Unless you can appeal and get ebay to remove any of the 9 lows on p and p I think your ebay career may be over.

  • Thanks for your honesty- I've obviously been a bit naive about this and thought as long as my feedback was ok I was fine!

Is there a way of tracking where the low scores came from?

    Thanks

Yes, but you can't use that info or let ebay know that you 'know'. On the LH side of yoru expanded dashboard you have the link to run reports. Fiddle about there, run lots on different start and end dates and with patience you might be able to narrow it down a bit.

The one thing you can appeal is where a buyer has left a glowing positive, no mention of postage etc, and then slammed you on a series of starts. However if it is only your p and p stars that are bad this might not work in your case.

If you have any low stars in other categories it is worth a try and ebay do not like a glowing positive, with no mention of any concerns, and a row of low stars.
