Thanks to Skiddy2k
I have followed the first steps and now can get into redgedit, thanks.
However I can only go so far with the next steps. I can find internet explorer in the redgedit but can not follow the next steps, can you help?
Is there any more I should be doing now I can get into redgedit, anything I need to look for, change or deleate.
Thanks very much for the help so far.

Good new, I have now got back control of regedit and my homepage, I have now deleated the section that was taking over my home page.
I have Spybot, Spy Doctor and the Kapersky Anti Virus.
A friend of mine has told me to remove the Anti Virus and go back to Norton, which I did have on here in the first place.
Which is the best set up and what should I do next?
Many thanks for all the help.

Keep your current set up. There things can happen.
You can stop IE from being hijacked from within SpyBot. Go into the Advanced section, choose Tools and select IE Tweaks. In addition, there is another tool to remove any links that have hijacked your IE start page.0 -
It is worrying that all this passed through my Anti Virus though.
Which is the best to use, I use Kapersky, I did have Norton but read many articles in which Norton came out low but Kapersky came out very good, maybe it was the wrong choice.
When you allow programs such as BitTorrent access through Kaspersky's firewall, I'm afraid all bets are off as far as Kaspersky stopping the intrusion are concerned. Kaspersky is one of the best programs available but if you tell it to allow something it will do just that. It's a bit like a smoker complaining about getting lung cancer when told repeatedly by the doctor to quit! You really do need to be careful with file sharing programs.
It looks like this particular infection came courtesy of this entry in your log:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rmalt] C:\Program Files\msnlive\Setup.exe
This is a variant of trojan clicker which you can install by clicking on virtually any link found on a crackz/warez site.
I suggest you fix this entry with HijackThis ensuring all browser windows are closed before hitting Fix Checked.
Then delete the msnlive folder in C:\Program Files.
Can I also suggest you fix the BitTorrent entry as well so if you get infected again, your file sharing program doesn't load on startup and upload malicious code to infect other users.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BitTorrent] "C:\Program Files\BitTorrent\bittorrent.exe" --force_start_minimized
Once you've done that, a scan with Kaspersky in Safe Mode may be in order. Feel free to post the results and a new HJT log when done.0 -
Thanks to the last poster, everybody today has been more than helpful.
I have followed the instructions of the last poster and have made the changes mentioned.
I have decided to re install the Norton Anti Virus that came with the laptop and will buy the new subscription when it is due in 17 days.
The computer is now running a lot better, I think just as it was before.
I will now be more careful and will no longer uese Bit Torrent, you live and learn.
I have attached the Hijackthis report for the computer as it now stands and if anybody can see anything else, please let me know.
Thanks again.

One other thing as well.
Now the computer is running more like it's old self I need to look at my back up.
The one I had did not work, so I mus thave done the last one wrong.
After this incident, I want to make sure I get it right.
What is the easiest fool proof way to do a system back up and how often should it be done.
If possible I would prefer to have a back up stored on a seprate drive rather than burn to disc.
Thanks
