Thanks for taking the time to respond to my queries. I think I've decided to forget about the gaming side of things. I reckon the kids at his school are more into x-box than pc-gaming, and it would always be at the weaker end of gaming machines at my price point.

I'll think again (i.e. talk to the boss again!) about refurbished laptops given your comments.

Order the thing. If when it arrives it is not to your liking, send it back for a full refund.
Don't miss out on a bargain because you can't make a decision.

Refurbished doesn't mean the same thing to every retailer/laptop.

Good chap. If you are not happy for any reason when it arrives, just go through eBay returns within seven working days. Argos won't quibble.

It's arrived. The box has been opened and is a bit worse for wear, but the laptop looks in perfect condition. Will boot up and check it later.

Yes, give it a good test run.

You have seven working days to return under DSR, 28 days to return if there is a fault and then after that they have the option to refund, repair or exchange.
So, in general a decent retailer with whom to deal.
