  • I hope when they call u back they can give u some answers as to be honest each time i have phoned i have been left more confused, even more so after i was told to apply again which i did, to then recieve another acceptance letter, also sent that back.

Agree with u though seems a problem at sheffield
    good luck

  • Call back came within the three hours with one hour to spare. Male operator this time he confirmed the offer has closed and that the law on the fourteen day rule is very tight and that it would be illegal for anyone to process the loan after this time, though I was told by a benefit team leader they would reopen it if the letter had turned up.

Was again told that apparently the managers do have the right to authorise faxing of the declaration through the Jobcentre. Was also told that this morning alone apparently the operator had dealt with 12 or 13 other cases of the same nature in that the declarations had never been received, not all Leeds and Yorkshire.

Told to reapply, told that a duplicate copy of declaration is never sent because it wouldn't be dealt with within the fourteen day rule and wouldn't/shouldn't get processed.

So to sum up if this second application is successful I can call and request to speak to a Supervisor before i send my declaration and see if they will authorise me to fax it from a Jobcentre, I doubt that will happen already asked that question and was told its a postal service only, no internal faxes, mmm I don't think I believe that.

Total shambles think an internal investigation is called for but I know nothing will get done and just have to hope second time lucky.

Just for the record I would like to point out that the 'office' that receives your post is not in fact a benefit office.

It is a royal mail sorting office and the royal mail workers there have permission to open all mail that is not marked a private and confidential.

So it would seem that it is at this point that the mail 'gets lost' or because none of these letters are marked private and confidential they are opened by anybody that might not care either way if your letter gets passed on, a mean spirited postie perhaps.

Lets face it they probably have time to read them if they want to and some may think stuff it and lose a few, who knows its still a shambles.

I do know about this post handling office but who between them and the DWP is going to take responsibility for 'lost post'.

Also if it was marked private and confidential it wouldn't get opened, then it wouldn't be delivered from there so it then couldn't be processed, that makes no sense. Why can't the person that processes it just open the letter, as it seems between the Royal Mail and the DWP no one can be trusted.

Now its been a while since I managed a social fund team but this just bamboozles me - there is no law regarding 14 day return of acceptance forms as such - just that the offer can be withdrawn (non responsed) from the system once 14 days have elapsed. As noted before this is done manually not automatically and requires the office to be sufficently up to date on all their other work to be processing the automatic computer reports that are run off with all offers that have not received an acceptance within 14 days. In practice this never happen immediatley after 14 days given the level of work vs available staff to action this work.

At any rate of they have decided to be arsey and close the offer even though you have confirmed you have returned the forms and they have not received them, don't have too many concerns about reapplying - budgeting loans are a computerised decision - if you meet the criteria on one occasion you meet it on the second providing there have been no intervening changes in circumstance. Ridiculous waste of processing resource mind to make someone reapply when sending a duplicate acceptance would be quicker and easier by every account.

  • Thanks for that I wish I had spoken to you on the phone during this fiasco, believe a lot of things would have been easier than everything I have been through the past two weeks. And yes I was led to believe that the 14 day rule is a rule and one operator was very arsey with me and said if it ain't here you ain't going to get it simple as no fax no sending duplicates cos of 14 day rule blah blah.

I think some of them just make it up as they go along even the team leader from the benefit section was no help offered no solutions at all just reapply.
  • I asked for a budgeting loan as well, was told I could have £750 and sent the acceptance letter back last Wednesday. Been waiting since for an answer.

I phoned today to be told that I have rejected the offer????

I have no idea what's going on, waiting on a call back but what can I do to sort this out.

I'm absolutely broke. My hubby has bipolar and stresses out all the time and this is making him so worried.

    any advice so much appreciated

  • I suppose the only thing you can do is to apply again, it does sound odd that you have rejected it if you applied for it in the first place. Don't know what else to suggest fed up to the back teeth with them myself.

Have they offered to send you a new form out, can they send you a copy of the offer you rejected as proof, tricky I honestly feel for you.
  • If u had of rejected why would u be calling?? So basically there saying they didnt recieve ur acceptance and offer was closed?
The way they run things seems a total shambles, I would ask them to send another form and apply again.
    Really feel for you.
