Brown Garden Bin From Local Council £20

Options
Hi
I wondered how many other councils were doing this,
I am going to order myself a brown garden bin for my garden waste,
£20 from my local council
instead of using those stupid flimsy bags
how many other councils do this,
my council is
scarborough borough council.
cw
we are suppose to be getting the blue one's in september

We get a brown garden wheelie bin for garden waste already, and can rent an extra one for a fee. Ours is Vale Royal council in Cheshire.

Altogether we have: a green bag for paper; a red box for plastic bottles; a green box for tins and glass; the brown garden one and a green wheelie bin for other household waste. One week's recycling bins, the next the general household.

We have one too! Have to pay more than that though, think last year it was about £60?
We already have a blue bin, and our rubbish is collected every other week. (one week recycling/one week other stuff). We also got two of the large composters last year when they were on offer!
We find that our bins are rarely full when they go out for collection although I know of large familes that struggle sometimes with a lot of waste.
I really wish our council would provide a glass collection too, we always take ours down to the bottle bank - but a collection from home would be better and easier for us!

hi, we inherited a brown bin when we moved in so I don't know if it cost anything, it's collected fortnightly from apr to dec tho I was chopping things down in Jan and Feb and could've done with it then. You can go to the depot and fill an 80 litre bag of the resulting compost for £1 - haven't tried it yet, really must give it a go.
Apart from garden waste we have glass and tins in a blue box and paper in a hessian sack - this is just great as the bin men just chuck it down when they've emptied it so It will blow away, I'm on my third one in 18 months, not very green!
We're in East Renfrewshire now and previously were in Glasgow, where there was no Garden waste collection but there was plastic bottle, so I'm really in the habit of doing them now but have to remember to take them up to the bank at the shops and of course forget all the time so my kitchen is full of empty milk bottles and my kids go thru a LOT of milk.
I just remembered that berfore we moved house Glasgow city council in their great wisdom did a trial scheme of brown bins in the councl estate near where I lived; this estate was mostly flats, therefore- NO GARDENS!!!! Wonder how they got on?

I got a normal green wheelie bin for rubbish that get collected weekly a blue bag for paper that collected every 2 weeks, over the road from me they have 3 wheelie bins green for normal waste, brown one with silver lid for metal & glass, brown one for garden waste and they have a big clear bag for cardboard and blue bag for paper, its silly to say they live over the road, when i know its carboard day i run over the road and dump mine with someone elses, wish i had 3 wheelie bins would save me from going to the re cycling centre ever week.

Our council don't like wheelie bins and won't empty them???? We have orange bags for paper, foil, plastic bottles and tins. (all in together). Orange bags and black bags are both collected weekly but by different lorries. They have also recently given us all a compost bin which looks like a dalek. Most of these in our estate have been used by the children for this purpose. We have got ours still but havn't used it yet as not sure where to put it so that it won't be in the way, but still accessible so that we actually use it. (It has taken two years to convince family to use orange recycle bags and not put everything in the main bin)

    green for household waste,
    brown for garden waste
blue is suppose to be for plastic/paper/cardboard.
dont know if we have to pay for the blue one's yet, suppose to be getting them in september,
but I like the idea of the brown ones,
    green is collected every week
brown is collected every 2 weeks
so looks like our council is finally doing something about recycling,

I'm in South Norfolk and we have a grey bin for household rubbish and a green one for cardboard and plastic (no glass though). I pay £40 a year for a big brown bin for garden rubbish - quite expensive I think but it saves countless trips in the car to the recycling tip...

These bins are all emptied fortnightly!
