You'd have to buy the 3G model of the iPad 2 / iPad 3 etc which ever you buy, that gives you (in basic terms) a slot to put a Sim Card (Micro SIM card) into and you can use it when out and about via the mobile phone 3G network.

You can as the_r_sole states buy a WiFi Only iPad and link it (Bluetooth / Tethering) to your mobile phone, but not all mobile phones can do this and not all mobile phone tariffs let you do this as part of your package, therefore will charge you for each Mb you use. So you'd have to check all this first and workout if it will be cheaper overall; the iPad will be cheaper but if you have to buy / upgrade you phone and / or you tariff then over a period of time it may not be....do the maths first.

Apple tends to have a very simple pricing structure because they have a relatively small amount of products in production at any one time. They also tightly control pricing so if they are going to maintain and discount the prior model they will announce it at the time of launching the new one.

For discontinued items then Apple themselves moved them into the Referb store and so dont have discontinued products cluttering up their site and confusing people with different prices for what is still called the same thing (particularly when you get into desktops and laptops)

Non-apple retailers do occasionally sell off old stock after discontinuation but even that is relatively rare and the discounts low.

The "problem" is that the iPad 2 isnt being discontinued just the "New iPad" (iPad 3rd gen) is and so no one will be discounting due to the new announcement. Though you may find extra iPad 3 in the refurb store now.

Your best bet is simply looking at cashback for online sales or buying referb
