You will best best waiting for a couple of weeks, the iPad Mini and iPad 4 have just been announced and will be in the shops on the 2nd November, two weeks after this the 3/4g ipad will be released, during this time the networks will release there plans, and you will have a better understanding of price.
If you are buying the iPad outright then the apple store refurbished section offers some good deals. You can get the iPad 3 for £415 (3g & wifi) saving about £85, also you can get a 64gb iPad 3 (wifi only) for £439 saving about £120, these come with one-year warranty, also the iPad 2 is sometimes available as well, but there are none in stock at the moment, its always worth checking as they have new stock everyday.0 -
I wouldn't consider an iPad 2, buy an iPad Mini; its the same Spec as the iPad 2 (in someways higher Spec) and its cheaper.
You'd only buy an iPad 2 if you needed the bigger screen and couldn't afford an iPad 4.0 -

Apple do refurbished ipads and they are literally as good as new given that both the front and rear cases are replaced and the operating system is reloaded from scratch.
Stock levels vary and I read that the main update for this is early on Thursdays.

Thanks guys!
Chorlie, yes I need the bigger screen so mini is no good for me unfortunately. I am looking at ipad 2 rather than newer just to save some pennies!
If I went for a newer one would the main benefit be 3G? And I would have to subscribe to this service right? (Sorry bit out of touch on my technology at the mo, had my current mac mini for too many years!!)
I have seen on various sites new ipad 2 wifi 16gb for under £300, I was just looking for the best deal really.
Thanks Neil49 I will check out the refurbed!0 -
Another thought, if I do go for the ipad2 should I wait for the ipad 4 release in the hope the ipad2 will be reduced?0

The iPad 2 will not be reduced this time as it is still being manufactured and sold by apple. If you go 3g, you can use your iPad out and about when you do not have WiFi, your best bet would be a giff gaff sim, you can get 1gb data for £7.50 as a pay and go deal. If you are using your iPad at home, or where you have WiFi then I would not bother with the 3g.0

The iPad 4, will work on EE's 4G network, but you have to pay extra, will only work in certain cities and will have to pay extra over their 3G cost, so therefore in IMHO not worth it yet.
I have an iPad 1 & an iPad 3, both with work on any networks 3G service, I've even had over 9Mbs Download Speed while using a Three Networks Sims in my iPad 3, which is faster then I get on my home broadband.
As for costs; for a low data user, https://www.ovivomobile.com gives you 500Mb a month for free once you've bought a sim from them £10 (it runs on the Vodafone network).
If you use Quidco you can get a 3Gb or 3 month Data Sim for about £8 after Cashback.
Or T-Mobile offer an iPhone PAYG Sim with 12 months free Internet, which you can get to work in an iPad (just don't tell them) for the cost of a £10 topup.
Forgot to state, once the iPad 4 is on sale, you maybe able to pick up an iPad 3 cheaper, not sure but they most have a stock of iPad 3’s0 -
Thanks for all this info! So I could get mobile internet access on an ipad2 if I wanted to using a sim? God I am so not down with the kids :rotfl:0

if you have a smartphone you could save buying the 3g one and use the phone, would mean you only had one contract to worry about...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
