Get out of Orange Contact (Faulty Phone)..

Hey everyone,

Having a number of problems with my Orange HTC One X. I got it around June time and in the past couple of months I've had nothing but problems with it.

The first problem is that a bug in the software means that once you reach 6,000 texts in your inbox the phone will no longer allow you to view or respond to texts, you have to delete everything in your inbox. When I first told Orange of this problem they told me it was my fault for sending too many text messages and that I need to delete them every once in a while. But considering I have a £500 phone AND this isn't a listed feature or something that you're told to do in the instruction manual it seems like they're just trying to pass the blame onto me. I've had this problem twice now.

The second problem has just recently started with the phone, the screen is beginning to stop working. A number of times I've tried unlocking the phone and it's just gone to a black screen with a backlight, there is also a lot of image tearing and flickering.. and on one occasion the screen has actually appeared the wrong way round as if it had mirrored itself. Weird stuff.

Now all the times I've rung Orange all they've offered is taking me through how to factory reset my phone, which I know how to do anyway. They also said that I can't get a replacement HTC One X, you can only send them in for repairs (company policy for HTC phones apparently). However that's stupid because all they'll do is factory reset it for me since both are problems with the software in the phone!

I don't want to have this phone for another 18 months since it's totally useless and creating new problems every week! I use my phone a lot for personal and business reasons so I really need something that works.

Is there any way you know of where I can get out of my contract due to a faulty phone, or have them replace it with a difference model of same or lower value?

Thanks,
Sam

Forget about getting out of your contract. You will not.
If the phone is faulty, Orange have to repair or replace (their choice) it within reasonable time and without causing you significant inconvenience.
If they cannot repair, they have to replace it. They lie that it's impossible to replace.
If Orange fail to do this, you can sue them.

Or you can try contacting HTC directly instead, but there is no guarantee that they will act differently.

more to the point why do you need 6k of texts in your box?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

It is reasonable for you to expect them to sort out the problem with the screen. What is unreasonable is for you to complain about not being able to store more than 6000 texts when it is within your power to avoid this problem by either deleting old texts or archiving them on your PC/Laptop/Cloud Service free of charge.

Nokia E71s have the same problem with large numbers of texts left in inbox or sent items so its not a new problem.

I have a £500 phone with 32GB of storage, I thought that was pretty reasonable. Especially since HTC have already acknowledged it as a FAULT rather than something that the user should avoid.
