Apparently cats hate mustard powder, we tried that on my mums cats when they were being mischevious in corners (one decided he was going to strip all the wallpaper off the wall and the other decided she didnt want to go outside to do the toilet) - just sprinkle a bit in the area you dont want your cats to hang around. It stopped them both from doing what they were doing. I've also heard that double sided sticky tape works if you dont want your cats to scratch places or jump up on work tops, but this didnt work for my cat since he's too hyper to notice that its sticking to his paws!

I tried double sided tape on a chair Bean was scratching, he stayed away for a few days, then got brave and would give it the odd pluck, and I stupidly didn't replace it when it lost its tackiness.

I'm thinking of replacing the chair, but putting the one he has destroyed up on the landing, and hope he might stick with that one, rather than start on a new one?
