Some of old breeds of dogs are going onto the endangered list

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/dulux-dog-put-endangered-list-111547788.html

According to the Kennel Club, some of our breeds of dogs are becoming endangered.
Old English sheepdog, Pembrokeshire Corgi, Welsh Terrier, Wheaten Terrier, Clumber Spaniel etc.

It would be a shame to lose them, obviously the fashion for 'Designer dogs' is having an effect.

When I was growing up, my friends had a Cairn terrier, a Border collie and a St. Bernard - can't remember the last time I saw any of those. It's all Staffy-types round here, and my sister has a bulldog.

I'm sick of seeing Staffies everywhere (not just because I generally just don't like them-my friends staffy is ok though),I just don't get it!They're everywhere.I rarely see anything else tbh.

I've talked to a few people who have had trouble even finding breeders/litters of dogs such as Golden Retrievers.Yet if you want a staffy or similar...

It may be Darwinism - my SIL had an Old English - he was lovely but wasn't the sharpest pencil in the box.... and when they tried to mate him........ well, like I said, not the sharpest pencil in the box :rotfl:.

Yeah, my dad's old english hadn't got 2 brain cells to rub together either. Plus the fur was a pain - the dog spent most of its time with a number 2 cut looking like a sheep.

My neices cousin just got a Cairn terrier. No offense but if they are a dying breed I can see why, it's horrible lol.

That's just me though, they clearly love it :)

Whatever happened to Afghans that were all the rage back in the 70's and there used to be alot of Irish setters here too, don't see them nowadays either, shame.

Shame about the Welsh terrier, now that's a handsome doggie. The wheaten had a cute face too.

The large Yorkie seems to be ever growing in numbers here, I know at least 6 others besides mine, at least they are better looking that bloomin Staffies, they've got to be one of the ugliest dogs going, right up there with pugs, a face only a mother could love

I'm not really a small dog fan, kind of like some wee fluffy ones but it wasn't really fluffy so just not for me. I can see why people would like it though and of course I would never be cruel to one.
