2yr old unworn jacket with faulty zip. Any chance of an exchange?

I bought an expensive riding jacket 2 years ago from an online saddler. I didn't get to wear it and its been hanging in my wardrobe ever since. last week I decided i wanted to wear it out riding, however, I was unable to as the zip is faulty and I can't do the thing up! Heaven knows why I didn't try it at the time!

I can't find any receipts, card payments or even remember where I bought this jacket as evidence of purchase. What do you reckon my chances are of an exchange/repair or refund from the brand manufacturer. They pride themselve on quality etc. Do I have any rights here or is it all just too long ago!?

thanks

are you being serious?! no where would give you an exchange after 2 years even if you did have a reciept!

usually the reciept will say you have 28 days to exchange, you can get an exchange after this if there is a fault - here the zip -in the first 6 months it's held to be on the shop/manufacturer to prove that the item wasnt faulty, after that it's up to you.

so, you'd have to prove purchase and that it was faulty at the time, so in terms of chances you've bob hope and no hope....and bob hope's dead.

better off just taking it to a tailor and paying for a new zip.

Try rubbing the zip with a pencil.

If you can't remember from where it was purchased there is nothing we can suggest.

How is it broken? Sometimes a new zip can be very stiff to get the end fully down, and that means you can't then do it up.

    Op will email...
    the brand manufacturer.
  • You dont have any rights against the manufacturer unless the coat is explicitly sold with an extended two years warranty.

Your statutory rights are against the retailer (or a credit provider if paid by CC) with whom you had a contract but if you cannot remember who you bought it from or how you paid then your up a certain creek without a paddle. Even if it were possible for you to find out then its up to you to prove its inherently faulty, its up to the retailer to decide if to replace, repair or refund and any refund can have useage removed from the settlement,

That all said, irrespective of statutory rights certainly some manufacturers take a much more proactive approach and will offer assistance even if they dont have to.
  • I expect the answer to be a resounding no but still no harm in asking!
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • Dont be so certain, there are without doubt certain manufactures that do highly pride themselves in their products.

I managed to break a speaker and I wrote to the manufacturer asking where I could buy a replacement cone for it as it was one of 3 matching speakers and it seemed a waste to get rid of them all for one damaged cone. Fully admitted it was my error that had lead to the damage, no complaint in the letter at all but by return post came a replacement cone free of charge and an offer of free fitting if I wanted/ needed it.

Its not so much broken, the end or pin will not go fully down into the retainer as the sides creating the slit you push the end into are not parellell. Ones wonky and theres just not room for the pin. It looks like a manufacturing fault on the zip as opposed to a breakage or just stiff.
