Collected item paid for by Paypal

Am I missing something here? I thought accepting by paypal was safe? What is wrong with taking payment by paypal and the buyer collecting in person? What could go wrong? My first item on "cash on collection" is finishing this week and now I am getting nervous! I am relatively new and learning as I go. If the buyer does pay by paypal, what can go wrong? And if she pays cash on collecting, do I actually ask her to sign something? I hadn't thought of doing that!
Go and look at the last paypal email you receive where you got funds. There are a couple of different email styles they are using but this is from one I got this morning:
Thanks for using PayPal. You can now send any items. To see all the transaction details, log in to your PayPal account.
It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.
This item is eligible for Seller Protection.
Don't forget to:
- Send the item to the postal address below within 7 days.
Please note: items delivered in person or to a different address are not covered by Seller Protection.- Use a trackable proof of delivery.

Note the tracking to the registered address bit- they warn you of that for a reason, have you never wondered why or read how to protect yourself?
Also check out the sticky postage thread at the top of this forum- it is all e xplained there.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm not sure how anyone else but the buyer is going to know where to go and pick up the item? I've never heard of a case of someones account being hacked and some mystery person has turned up to pick an item that isnt theirs!
I'd would ask the buyer to bring some ID thats definitely not unreasonable and if you have a printer? print off a copy of the email confirming the "sold" item you would have received from ebay and get them just to sign that?0 -

I can understand you not wishing to read this thread, or the postage sticky thread- but to ignore the paypal (very clear) warning about the posting requirement?
The fact that people still think that getting a bit of paper signed somehow protects them is a great worry and shows that the message on using paypal safely is just not getting through.
Yes I am a bit grumpy, but th eonly way to stop these scams is for people to understand what they are doing in the first place- while people blindly do their own thing these scammers continue to work.
EDIT: Not all people wanting to use paypal on collection are scammers of course, but this discussion is really about those that do use the system to their advantage.
Only this year I allowed a very large item to be collected after the buyer paid by paypal, but he had contacted me first and explained why and I was happy to take the risk.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As for this bit they have no reason to hide who they are.
Scammers might hijack an account or set one up with a bit of feedback and pick of all those sellers allowing collection on baby equipment (a highly scammed area) mobiles, laptops etc. A days work going round collecting everything, signing random bits of paper . Then next day open INR claims on all the items, all of which sellers will lose of course.
Then a serious scammer will get all their refunds, take the money and dump the throwaway Hotmail account and associated paypal info.
There are even easier ways of scamming- but I don't think it appropriate to post everything here.
However, the main bit to remember is what paypal actually state on their emails when you receive payment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But obviously you can't send a collection-only item by a trackable means so there will never be any proof that is good enough to win a paypal claim for INR.0 -

Just refund and explain the situation or take the risk and accept paypal. Its quite simple
Take the risk and accept paypal - great advice.
1. - Standard procedure within ebay
2. - Needed to link to action 4.
3. - Non obtrusive action
4. - Signing is standard
What exactly is the problem?
Signing for receipt? Backing that up with relevant ID?
You definitely aren't for real.:cool:0 -

I am getting confused, so you agree that it is not possible to win a PayPal dispute without tracking to point of delivery?
