  • Hi Polesalot - I am just so like you. I hate mass produced tat. Practically everything in my home has a story behind it and most of my furniture and effects are pretty old. I just love old things and I dont want what everyone else has got. I know it works because the majority of my visitors are very complimentary about my home. Now I am out walking more with the hound, I hope to start and call in at the local charity shops for a browse when we are passing. Today I stopped outside the mini Mr T today and went in for some milk. Sidney was very good - No amateur dramatics or howling whilst I was awol for 2 mins. Things are improving!! Recently I have been scouring some "house" magazines and have come across some lovely projects I would like to do - such as painting old furniture and making it shabby chic. I have cut out pictures of the interesting project and put them in a scrap book for when I get everything together !!

Today was my last day at work till 2nd Jan 2013. Thank God ! Although i want to have a good time over the next fortnight, I also want to make good use of my time. I have got a few projects to start/complete. I need to make a cover for Sidney's new bed. Also I need to sew 2 shower curtains together. Hopefully I can crack on with these tomorrow, but i have got a few errands to do, so I might have to wait till Thursday. After work I took Sidney on a long walk. We are walking for about 1.5 to 2 hours a day an I am really tired out afterwards. The hound seems to be ok though - just goes to sleep for the rest of the day - Not got things to do like me. Joking aside, I really hope that i can continue this in the New Year. Once I start on slimming world, I am hoping that I will steadily loose a stone or so. Fingers crossed.

Today I paid £5 off the mortgage but I felt obliged to give £5 to a collection at work for someone who is leaving. I was quite shocked that most people were giving £5 or £10. I am such a tight wad !

I hope everyone is having a great moneysaving day.:)

There is a shabby chic thread on the Old Style board. Lots of before and after pics and you can get some great tips too :)

  • Hi Polesalot - Thanks for the shabby chic information. I will be having a look very soon. Great stuff. Have you done much shabby chicing ?

Today has been rather productive. Other than having an appointment this afternoon, I have been able to put my back into some home projects Went up in the loft and got out a few small xmas decorations which are now on the mantelpiece. I have 3 christmas ornaments all bought from car boot sales and the fireplace grate is full of large cones I found years ago and sprayed with gold paint. That's me.....decorations sorted !!!.
I also sewed 2 shower curtains together and put them in the bathroom. They look fab and they look very stylish as they are black - and my bathroom is black and white. I also made a very posh cover for a quilt which is to be Sidney's night time bed. At night she sleeps on the landing outside my bedroom door and if i have to leave her during the day she has a bedroom in my wash house which is in the garden. Unfortunately I have no choice but leave her in there (although its now very cosy) as when I used to leave her in the house she got up to all sorts of mischief. Lets just say she unravelled my stair carpet when i was at work one day. Not a good look !! In the wash house she has a great big bed and a fair amount of room.
Only spent £1 today on a couple of cucumbers which i will feed to my tortoise !! I bought these when I was out on another nice long walk later this afternoon. Anyway that's enough of my rambling today. Going to have a nice glass of wine or two and have a look at starting to plan my quilting project.

Hpe everyone is having a great moneysaving day x :)

I haven't done any shabby chiccing. My kitchen has a shabby chic style to it but that's about where it ends. The rest of my furniture is just shabby :rotfl:

  • Hi Polesalot - I am loving the shabby chic thread. In fact I spent a few hours last night going over loads of old post.

Yesterday was a lovely quiet day for me. Sidney and I had a nice long walk in the morning and i spent most of the afternoon at the sewing machine doing my quilting. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A friend came round for good catch up at tea time, so I put it all away.
Moneywise I paid £5 off my mortgage and had a NSD. Great stuff

Today has been pretty similar. After an early doctors appointment I decided to go to the early morning showing of "Life of Pi" at the cinema which I enjoyed very much. Thankfully there are a few more new releases out at the cinema over the xmas and New year so that should keep me occupied. After the cinema, Sidney and I had a long walk which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have just done more of my quilting project. Tonight I plan to iron everything I have done so far. I have actually come to a halt now as I am waiting of a cutting board coming through the post which I need to progress matters. Not to worry if it doesn't come before Christmas, I have got a tapestry I could do with getting on with !!!

I hope everyone is having a great moneysaving day x :)
  • Like everyone else, the last few days have just gone so fast. I have just spent them dog walking, visiting family, making my patchwork quilt and eating !!! Yesterday I went to the local indian buffet with my friend and we had a great time. Every day I have been paying my daily £5 off my mortgage which is a great feeling especially knowing that i have survived another year on my own. I havent gone mad with Christmas spending but i havent been mean either.

Polesalot - I wanted you in partcular to know about my wonderful purchase. By chance, yesterday I went on e!!y and saw a wrought iron day bed up for auction. Well lets just say that i needed the smelling salts when i won it for 99p. Talk about shocked. Anyway one of my sons took me early doors this morning to pick it up and the lady generously gave me a mattress to fit it. She actually thought i was doing her a huge favour as she wanted the stuff out of the house asap for christmas. Lets just say i am delighted. I have put it together and althugh it will need a coat of spray paint, its just wonderful. My plans for 2013 include doing up the large upstairs room that used to be my childrens playroom when they were little and subsequently their lounge when they got to be a lot older. Lets just say the daybed is fabulous in it and it will encourage me to get a wiggle on with my plans. One of the first jobs i need to do is to order the new window as the current one needs replacing. Hopefully i will be able to do that in the new year. The day bed will mean that once i get it dressed with bedding and cushions etc, I will be able to use it as a bed or as a sofa/seating.

Anyway I hope everyone else is having a great moneysaving day x Merry Christmas x :)

Ooh what a bargain, Sidneysmum. Well done you. Here's wishing you a very happy Xmas.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • Merry Christmas to you too Jazee !! x
  • Oh I am soo humbug. I just want all this Christmas business over with now. Sorry to those who are still enjoying it !!! I want all these cards and decorations away and everything back to normal. Rant over!!

I have had a busy few days visiting realatives and taking Sidney out for extra long walks. In fact my feet are very sore today so i am going to have a bit of a pedicure tonight. Just been to do a bit of food shopping at Mr M. I bought a few healthy bits and pieces to start me off on NY`s Day with my attempt at Slimming world. Luckily this year I didnt get any more toiletries for pressies. That will enable me to use up all those which i have stashed in the landing cupboard. Luckily i got loads of vouchers so i will be able to use these when i see something i really want or need. My best present was something i had wanted for a long time - an electric meat slicer. It means i will be able to cook a joint of gammon or any other meat then slice it thinly once its cooled down. Sad I know...

Anyway hope everyone is having a great moneysaving day x :)

Fantastic bargain Sidneysmum :T Your patchwork quilt will look gorgeous on it!

Glad you've had a lovely xmas but I know what you mean about wanting to get back to normal again. I quite like these few days between xmas and new year to get myself sorted. I've done a lot of that today actually and if you read my diary you'll see that I've got a leaking boiler to contend with too grrrr...my house is a lot tidier now - even sorted under my bed and filed all paperwork away too :p
