  • Hi Polesalot - Thanks for dropping by !!

I have had a busy couple of days....Yesterday was work - Yuk. Anyway its over for the week now. On my way home I called to fill the car up with LPG and did a bit of calculating. It cost me £13 in LPG for 2 journeys to work which is 80 miles for the 2 trips. I was pleased with that. I am really trying to not use the car other than for work and trips such as in the evening when its less safe on foot. Most of my other journeys are now being done on foot, for reasons both economy and helping with my dieting. Anyway I was really pleased with my £13 spend ! Took Sidney out for a nice walk after work and combined it with a couple of errands such as picking up my prescription. I decided to cut an old bath towel up into 4 pieces which are now the size of hand towels. They are just perfect for drying HRH when she comes in from a walk and is wet. I also did a long overdue job and got 3 boxes of pottery out of my loft (Price Kensington Cottageware). I collected it when I was a child for some strange reason. Anyway its now on display and some of it is being used in my kitchen. Well that's a job that needed doing for ages. It was a bit of a chore as about 70 pieces needed washing and drying before i could display it !

Today has been really nice. I am trying to get up reasonably early on my days off to make the best use of my time. I got up about 7.30am and did a few little chores then I took Sid out on a very long walk this morning - over 2 hours. I have done a bit of cooking this afternoon. I made some sage and onion stuffing to try to use up a small portion of a rather large glut of onions I have. I also made a quiche using up a few eggs as my chickens have started laying again after a bit of a lull in production !!

Just got back from the cinema after watching Gangster Squad which was very good (if a little violent) but wonderful costumes. Going to have my tea soon and get my feet up for the evening !
Hope everyone is having a great moneysaving day x :)

Sounds like another highly productive day! I love reading about how much you fit in. It's how I would spend my days if I didn't have to work full-time.

  • Hi Polesalot - Glad you are reading my ramblings ! At them moment i am feeling really positive about things, but i am sure you know that can change pretty quickly. Over Christmas I gave myself a good talking to and decided that i had got bit stagnant with some things and i needed to get myself busy again. Lets just say i was drinking a bit too much wine and eating a bit too much chocolate. My life has changed quite lot over the last 4 years. My marriage has ended and the last of my 4 children has left home. I think a lot of people might feel lonely but i love my life now. I`m not saying i didn't love it when my children were at home....I did, but i love it now too. For the first time in my adult life i can do what i want although i do have to consider Sidney ! I now feel like i am finally truly enjoying MY life and not enjoying my life as someone's wife or mum. I hope that makes sense.

I have spent most of today doing what i like best and that's pottering around. I had to take my car to the garage to have a job done on it so i got up quite early and made start of things. When i got back from dropping the car off i took Sid on a long walk, calling off to buy some milk. When i was out i found a lovely wicker tray just dumped on the street. It had obviously been thrown out and was a bit damp but i brought it home and once its thoroughly dried out i am going to use it to store maybe my reels of cotton in it. I couldn't believe my luck ! Tuning into a bit f a womble these days. Anyway i have spent the rest of the day putting my time to good use doing a few long overdue jobs such as cleaning my ovens out. One of my next jobs when i get some motivation is to strip the walls of my sons old playroom and get some emulsion slapped on. I am not having wallpaper again as the plasterwork is good enough for just paint. Other news is that i have used up 2 items - 1 face cream and 1 nail polish. Also I still haven't bought any food, only a bottle of milk - OMG !

Anyway I hope everyone is having a great moneysaving day x :)

That's a good attitude to have. I think so many people think the grass is greener and don't appreciate the good things that are going on right now!

Having said that I have felt really low for the last couple of weeks and it's so unlike me! I need to give myself a good talking to!

:DHiya sidneysmum, just dropping by to say that Iam enjoying reading your diary.....well done.....keep up the good work!:D
  • Polesalot - Sorry you have been feeling down in the dumps recently. I think going for a nice long walk often does the trick for me. I always come back home feeling at least a little bit better. Failing that a nice bottle of wine usually does the trick !!

Dogcat - Great to hear from you. Its good to know that someone (apart from Polesalot) is reading my ramblings !!

It is just so cold in the North West today so i have kept warm by keeping busy. First thing i took Sidney out for her walk. Only stayed out for an hour as I wanted to get back and give my car a good wash. I dont know how much it costs for a car wash these days (I suppose my sons would know) but there is no way i am paying it. What money I have coming in is for necessities such as bills, food and savings and the rest is for enjoying. I am too mean to pay someone else to do what i can do myself. The car looks wonderful now. The job i had done at the garage yesterday was shall we say experimental....I have a sign which keeps coming up on the dashboard which keeps saying i have an engine problem. Anyway i have had the car to several garages and no one seems to know what is the problem. My regular mechanic suggested some sensors were changed yesterday to see if that sorted the problem. Anyway i should know on Tuesday when i travel to work on the motorway if the problem is sorted. I really hope so....please God !!
The other good news is that I got on the scales this morning and almost fainted. It was my plan to weigh myself every Sunday but I decided to do it a day early as I have been out for a meal with my aunt for her birthday today and i knew i would be forgetting the diet altogether today. Anyway I got on the scales this morning and i nearly fell over. I lost 3lb my first week of dieting and this week I lost 5lb. OMG. I knew i was feeling a bit slimmer but i didn't think it was possible to lose so much in 6 days. I actually think its all the walking that has done the trick.
Used up a bottle of shower gel today so the stash is going down a bit. Hopefully i won't need to buy anything for a few months yet as i plan to use my stock up. I also came to a decision this morning. I finished reading a book that i started at Christmas and started another today. I am now planning on not buying any more books until i have read a lot of the books i have already got. In the past i just bought any book i fancied and its just sat there on the bookcase. I must have a few hundred pounds worth. So... I have now added my books read to my signature along with the toiletries used up as a means of keeping things under control.

I hope everyone is having a great moneysaving day. x :)

I'm feeling much happier now - been for 2 runs and a bike ride since thursday. Exercise is so good for the soul!

Well done on losing your 5lb:T it will definitely be the walking that's helping - exercise will help your metabolism speed things up and even when you've stopped the exercise it continues to help burn the calories.

I don't buy books any more. It seemed little point because I never re-read them they just get left on the shelf. We go to the library now. Very MSE :)

  • Im reading too Sidneys mum :D Just not much of a poster.

You sound like you have a lovely life that you are really enjoying and deserve after what sounds like a hard couple of years adjusting.
Its great to read your ramblings and hear how positive you are.

Hello Sidneysmum, I'm still here too. Well done on the weightloss. I'm sitting here munching toast (with jam) thinking oh dear, will be time to step on the scales soon. Wonder if doing a quick work out in the gym will help?!!

Please keep writing in your diary. Your positive attitude gives me the kick I need all the time.
