I would not worry too much, you will be on a different ship. Either the Pride of York or Pride of Bruges.

Given the Pride of Rotterdam mentioned above as the ship having technical issues covered the route in just under 10 hours I would say that the crews managed to fix the problem ok as they would have been pushing the ship to its maximum speed.

Hope they got this sorted as I'm travelling this week.....

About 4 years ago I travelled between Xmas & New Year and the Rotterdam ship got cancelled once it got to midnight & we were still in dock. Then last year we went on the Zeebruge ferry & it was so late arriving, the trip was basically a waste of money as we had so little time ashore.

I rang up as I'm travelling on Pride of Rotterdam this week. Apparently any delays at the weekend were due to fog (!!).

Delayed 7 hours due to fog?
  • Hi,

We were on the delayed Pride of Roterdam on Friday night as well. The delay was caused by a cable fouling the propellor, likely churned up when the boat had docked previously.

After contacting P&O they advised us to put our complaint to them in an email, confirming our booking details. To their credit they have offered us a complimentary cruise to Amsterdam (our original destination) as compensation. This was sorted within 24 hours of the complaint.

    That's good to hear davefish99.

To be fair, when our cheapy-winter mini cruise trip was cancelled after midnight (after a 4 hour delay) due to power failure a few winters ago, they offered us full refund or a replacement trip on a date of our choice. We opted for a summer mini-cruise which would have cost us considerably more & they threw in evening meals & breakfasts for the whole party. So they were fair & kids thought it was one big adventure & enjoyed the free soft drinks from the bar during the delay (never seen my kids drink so much cola!)

Also when our Zeebrugge trip was very delayed they did warn us about the reduced shore time at check-in. My only gripe was the 1-2 hour delay was an extremely optimistic estimation as it was much longer & meant the trip was a waste of time. P&Os position was that they warned us of the delay at check-in so only offered free meals next time we travelled. My gripe was that had we been given a more realistic estimation of the delay then we'd have had a refund & rebooked.

Hope there's no delay later this week - but when I mentioned this thread to OH, kids piped up that they hope there is a delay 'cos they liked drinking cola, going round the ship in the dark (power failure - emergency lighting only) & then going home in PJs at 2am - an adventure for kids!

We went to Bruges with P&O from Hull 2 weekends ago - a two hour drive for us over there. It was really good. The cabin was small but very clean with a good shower. We booked in advance Dinner and Breakfast and found both very good value. The bar areas were nice although obviously a few noisy pi**ed up people. The crossing was very smooth as was the transfer process. We stayed 1 night in Bruges in the Crowne Plaze which was wonderful. The return journey was the same - bit of a queue for the transfer buses but to be expected. All in all a great weekend and preferable to driving all the way down to Folkestone/Dover.
