Hello,
I am hoping to get if I can get my hands on one a iPad Mini. I have never had anything made by Apple before.
Do I need security on there?. And if I do what free security can I use?
Thank You

You should be fine without security, but as always be aware of where you're browsing, or what you put on it. The apps are always checked, so there's no issue with malware coming from that side.
You could install things like Prey (a locator if your ipad goes missing) or there are location programs included I think from apple (same as the iphone one I guess?)
You should always password protect it, and put such settings on as wipe the ipad after 10 wrong consecutive failed password attempts, and naturally keep that secure as with your itunes account password.
Get it insured if you can, through household contents usually, but be aware if you leave it on a table wander off to look at the lovely cakes ready for pudding, and it's gone by the time you're back, most insurers wont insure this type of theft.
Cases, well there are none atm out to buy off the shelf, however there are a couple on ebay supposedly for the mini, but they wont have been tested to fit, so in the mean time use something like a pouch, maybe another tablet pouch, but watch the sizes, the size is wider than most 7" tablets.
You could use a screen protector as well if you wish, I'm going screen protector, then also a large decal on the back for the moment, and when the likes of gelaskins release a new gel skin for it, will use that, and a silicone backing piece.0 -
Thank You So Much!
I will only use it for playing app games & general searching the net, & will use my laptop for everything else.
I hope Amazon gets some in as I have a couple of vouchers I wanted to use to help pay for it.
Now the only other problems is Silver or Black!.
Siver has a white bezel which stands out quiet a bit, but a lovely grey back which does not show fingerprints much
Black has a black bezel at the front which is better as the screen look's brighter & you don't look at the bezel so much, but it shows lost of finger prints on the back of it.
Think I will go for the black.

I'm going for the black as well, I just prefer the black on the front bezel, so had to go for black outright. I tend to use gelaskins on products so find fingerprints, and/or marks/scratches are just not there, keeps it in pristine condition.
You may find you have quite a wait until Amazon get it. It's only released on the 2nd Nov, pre-order available now for the apple store. In apple stores on the high street on the 2nd, however they consistently never release a large amount, and often people still find with the iphone 5 that it's on order in a lot of places.
Don't buy it from market place on amazon, you really do lose some protection by paying through card for it, so if you really want to get it on amazon, wait till amazon are selling it themselves.
Places to look out for it is tesco and if they double up clubcard vouchers in appropriate categories, or sometimes they offer X off an X spend on electronical goods. Generally anywhere you can get vouchers to use with, as they're rarely sold cheaper than apple prices. Also if you're willing to wait a while, daily check the refurb section on apple, as they'll eventually turn up there.
Be definite on the size too, apps can eventually add up to a fair chunk of the size of it, and more so if you eventually start to use it for other things (and I suspect you'll go this route) I couldn't live without my ipad2 now, but never used it from scratch much, so buying a bigger size at the start made sure that I can cope with using it properly now (videos, books, pictures (from my camera), music, and lots of apps (and app data)) Would be always shoogling things around if I'd gotten a 16GB to begin with. A reasonable compromise would be 32 (though I've gone for max, 64, and expect to use a lot of that)0 -
Thank You I will wait until Amazon sell's it them self's.
The Gel skins sound like a great idea as I don't want to see finger prints or scratches. I like cases to put the iPad in when not using rather than use in a case.
So the Gel skins sound great. Is there any particular place that sell's them as a good price?. I know like the cases they may not have any yet.

On their own site they're not available yet, so be aware of anyone saying so, reselling them on. Frankly you can get cheaper similar products, but I've used them for so long, and they really are re-peelable, reusable, and for a one off cost that does last the life of the product extremely well, I'll always stick with the real gelaskin.
Basically once the ipad mini is physically out then proper real cases, covers, skins etc will very quickly follow. I have, out of curiosity, bought a mini back case from ebay, just to see if it is of any use. Very cheap, so losing little if it doesn't!
Gelaskins end up on ebay, or you can get some of the patterns on amazon too. The alternatives are everywhere. I'd say with in a few weeks accessories should expand dramatically, upon release.
Probably because it's a US company, I'll end up just buying from the US when that comes out, right away. As always, longer you wait from the products release, the cheaper things will be, including getting gelaskins in the UK.
BUT be careful with accessories for the lightning connector. There are chips inside the official ones, and although they've been cracked now, and a simple ebay search shows up a lot of the fake china based goods to do with the lightning connector. Most likely those accessories will fail when updates are done by apple, so perhaps the outlay of a proper one from apple is well advised, if you use it a lot.0 -
Thank You
For all your help

What a surprise Amazon are not selling the iPad Mini!.
I emailed them & they said there are no updates on it.
I wonder how much of this is because they want to sell there own Kindle Fire?
Other shops have managed to get them in, so I am sure a huge company like Amazon could.

if amazon do start selling it, I would imagine it will be at a higher price (they seem to have done that with another couple of tablets that are competing with the kindle fire) - so I wouldn't hold out much hope, can you not sell the amazon voucers to family/friends that will defintely use them? or use the vouchers for a case and other accessories? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I got the codes from survey sites electronically so they are now registered on my account as I enter them as & when I get them, so I can't sell them.
I am on limited money & there is no way I can afford to pay £269 on a luxury product.
Look's like I'm stuffed always round really. Of course there is other things I would buy on Amazon, lets face it there always is, but that's not what I want.
I'm going to start getting my reward vouchers from Love2Shop from now on. Though I am virtually house bound, I would have to ask a family member to go & buy what I want with the vouchers.
Amazon have changed so much in the last year or two. You used to be able to buy anything newly released at a better than anyone else price.
Not anymore it seems!

Apple supply apple stores first off. Amazon will get it eventually, but as I wrote on the ipad mini price thread about other stores, you'll be waiting a while for the stock to filter down to there. If you don't mind waiting, eventually they will get it, but for now it will be apple online, and apple stores offline. Just have patience, it just takes quite a while for stock to reach out. They never over release stock, on any product. Even online it's a 2 week wait now for buying it.
It's not an amazon problem, it's an apple quirk. It's with everything they release.0
