Samsung Galaxy SIII - 3G or 4G version?

Orange now have the LTE (4G version) of the Samsung Galaxy SIII, whereas O2 only have the 3G version. Was going to upgrade to the SIII on O2, but now comtemplating goign for the LTE version on Orange, so I have 4G if I decide to go on an EE tariff. Current contracts for £36 are pretty much identical.

Worth doing or just go for the 3G version?

Would I be obliged to go on to EE's 4G contract, or be able to give it a year and see if it is any good and the prices come down?

By the end of the (2 year?) contract 4G might be fairly standard. Technology moves fast. More than I would spend though. I get 2G most of the time!

Same price ? Wonderful, but 4G is in its infancy and between now & you leaving Orange or EE if you pass over to them the 4G resell value will always be more than the 3G version.

Strange thing is Galaxy II and other cheaper Galaxy's had HD Voice & thats one thing SG III misses - Orange supports HD Voice, o2 does not (so far, nor Voda), SG III does not support it.

2GB RAM may be a minimum in 2 years on Android aswell, so you are futureproofing even past your 24 month term/resell value.

4G version so far all the way.

Better than SIII for HD Voice & all the other SGIII standards for the same £36 tag is http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/htc-one-xl-4g-ready-pay-monthly and you have no obligation to move to EE, and quite rightly as you said WAIT till EE prices drop with 3 4GLTElaunching early 2013 and o2/voda later in 2013 plan prices will fall with EE4G.

One thing I cant vouch for is One XL screen, you would need to compare them side by side, Gorilla screens are the cheaper versions of for instance the Japanese supplied more scratch resistant Blackberry Playbook technology thats is coming to BB10 devices apparently.

If the One XL Gorilla screen & its resolution/quality/colour sits even inbetween them two Samsung & Blackberry Playbook standards your on to a winner perhaps & even more resell value than the second hand saturated SG III markets of 3G/4G.

One XL also has Beats Audio Integration – studio quality sound, and that does not come cheap in Beats Audio headphones, another reselling point SGIII lacks.

One XL negatives - no micro sd, 32 GB memory.

    Compare the meerkat:

SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Would recommend 4G. Should increase your internet speed (if that's an improtant feature to your mobile experience?) and is expected to be pretty much standard as of next year.

I may be wrong but I think the 4g lte version only has a dual core processor and not the quad core thats in the 3g. I may be wrong but I know this is the case with the s3 in the US

all depends on cost also length of contract most s3 are on 24month contracts also to bear in mind is in 2 years what is a phones worth i have a phone that cost £150 2years ago now worth £20 on the resell market. basically people saying 4g will sell better there right, but the the actual value of that worth well there lies in the debate! i personally don't think any 2year old phone will be worth much of anyone's money.
so the question comes to this bear in mind 4g will be only available in 16 cities to start with and The firm's target is be able to offer the facility to 98% of the UK's population by 2014 but when in 2014 exactly is another matter! Also bearing mind cost against take up with profit it could be later in 2015 in reality

Yes you are wrong, the UK Galaxy SIII GT-I9305 has quad core and 2GB of ram.

Probably not entirely relevant to the 4G thing but I have both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X - both in none 4G version. I have rooted both and both run InsertCoin ROM currently, neither have clocked CPU.

Results are that the One X is far quicker than the S3 and the Sense overlay is superb, I love the weather animations and the 'Friends' stream. The S3 however just 'feels' smoother despite being slower in the benchmark.

The most notable aspect of the S3 is the screen, the colours are so much more vivid than the One X. The One X fights back with build quality, it feels so much more 'solid' than the S3.

If like me you don't need to have Gb's of music and stuff and like to have a nice and easy interface to Facebook / Twitter then the One X is the way to go. Indeed as someone who enjoys rooting and breaking stuff and currently in possession of an S3 I am going to ask for my HTC back and give him the S3!

This is some kind of joke, surely?! 'Studio' quality sound, out of a phone speaker, or set of Beats headphones? Marketing guff.
