Returning a car six months into a PCP

Hi everyone, for the last six months, I have been an owner of a 1.2 Hyundai i20. It has had a few niggles that my dealer have been very slow to sort out (Such as an odd "groaning" when moving up a drop kerb etc)

Sadly, the clutch thrust bearing has started "singing" when I reverse after 6500 miles. I knew that Hyundais have problems with their clutches, as me and the Wife had a Getz that wiped out three clutches in two years (Including one that lasted 57 miles!)

The Wife however, told me to find a cheap five-door car in April this year, so now I'm stuck with another Hyundai. I did however get the dealer to "raise" two letters to state they have not known the clutches on the i20 to be a weak point - the other letter was giving me the go ahead to put a set of alloys on the car that I had, just incase they blame them on the clutch going........

So, where do I stand in telling the dealer to shove the car up their "nose"? It's on a PCP, so does that make a difference? I don't fancy taking it to my dealer, as they are so useless, I had to go to another dealer to get a service plan, as they never even returned my calls!

Cheers

What would your basis be for handing the car back? That the gearbox *might* go, or that there is a bit of a noise from the thrust bearing thats covered under warranty anyway?

Seriously reckon you should change the way you drive, 2 in 3years and now you've wrecked the clutch on your new car, cant be a coincidence can it.

6500 miles in reverse is that a record?

3 clutches in 2 years.. And clutch issues on a new car.

Does make me think driver error.

Not seen pages and pages of people saying the clutches are faulty. As you would expect if it were a real issue.

The fact that Hyundais have problems with their clutches, has nothing to do with my driving style (As I said, one of my clutches lasted 57 miles!)

No it's not ok! This is MSE, the regulars here love to slag off newbies to the forum and take the moral high ground against anyone seeking advice.

How dare you think you could actually get advice without being ridiculed?

Seriously chap, you might want to ask elsewhere. MSE has gone to the dogs - everyone is back biting all the time. I hope that doesn't offend you as a newbie but its the truth. People around here are (in the british way) taking out their frustrations in life on others.

That's a shame. I have been a member on here for seven years, though.

Oh, well. I'll head off to battle the might of Hyundai, on my own, then (As I did with the Getz, and in the end, they won - the last clutch cost me £300 of my own money.....)

I don't know whether it is the OP at fault or not but it is certainly something that needs to be raised.

So TrickyWicky why are you taking the moral high ground? In fact if it is so bad why are you on here at all?

Sorry but I have to query why when you knew they suffered from clutch problems did you buy one?
As to the letters from the garage, they would only be worth anything if they agreed that the clutch would be replaced under warranty if it failed within x thousand miles.

I was making a point. The op came here asking for advice and all he's got so far is people criticising his way of driving and trying to turn it on him.

It seems stupid. This site is about helping people yet so many people here are so quick to be judgemental that I still find it shocking after seeing it for so many months.

This is one of the most aggressive forums I've been on.

My MIL wants your help in getting her clutch replaced AGAIN...also..

Its a fiesta. She cannot get more than 7000 miles out of a clutch. Soon after buying it the clutch went. Garage fobbed her off saying it had been checked.
I went down and asked them how they check the clutch inside the gearbox.

They replaced it. Few months later i was down there as she reversed off the drive. OH MY.... Red lining the engine whilst slipping the clutch to reverse out of the driveway. I felt sorry for the poor car.

When they contacted me soon after because the clutch had gone again i said no chance.

    So not an unreasonable assumption.

Exactly what i found the odd case where a clutch failed but nothing to show that whole batches of that model or years have failing clutches.
