Dear all,
Can any one suggest what will be the cheapest printer to have in terms of running costs, ink etc. I have looked at cannon 5250/5350 etc but can't make up my mind.
thanx in advance.

That rather depends on the number of copies you print per month, and what type of documents you need to print. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I know that more copies I print the ore ink I will use. Purpose of the question was to find out which printer cartridge are cheapest and the usage of ink in general used by the printer.
many thanks any way,

Epson printers will likely have cheaper compatible inks than the ones you list. If it has to be either of the ones you list, then refillable cartridges will be cheaper long term

Refill inks are available in various sizes and prices, though avoid going too cheap
Refillable cartridges won't require any modification to the printer, whereas a continuous ink system may.0 -

This confuses me even more, I don't know which printers are 'continuous ink' ones. I will look at some Epson printers as well.
Thanks

Not aware of any printers which are continuous ink as standard, (yet).
Not the printers you listed but the system would be similar

Which type of things will you want the printer for?0 -
Many thanks Santer,
Just normal documents, may be some photos and occasional graphic designs.

These are similar, though I expect the Epson will have cheaper compatibles available

Printers with six inks or more will produce better photos, though if you only do those occasionally, it could be as cost effective to use an online photo service0 -
Get ANY printer that will take this:-

I have fitted it on my Canon ip2600 - absolutely brilliant !0 -
I have just found out that if one cartridge out of 4 is low on ink then the printer stops working, is this true?
Are there any printers that will run despite ink being low, i.e can print just black.

Lasers are good because they don't chew up your ink for 'cleaning' if you don't use them regularly. If you do use them regularly, then an inkjet is more viable.0
