I don't see what you have to gain from engaging with the letting agent in any way at the moment, whatever your now ex-friend did, you are not liable for it. I would be inclined to just ignore them.0

I wouldn't get into any correspondence regarding addresses etc.
Your response if any would be 'It was a reference given to the best of my knowledge on the day. That was the start and the end of my involvement in the matter. Thank you and good day to you.'If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Comes down to personal morals. If someone trashed your property I'm sure that you would wish to see justice be done. Easy to walk away and say none of my business.
Judging by the amount you've written on here you suffering a clash of conscience. So suggests something more to this story.
Not passing any personal judgement just observations.0 -
Whole thing just sounds odd.
I couldn't imagine supplying a reference for anyone who wasn't a very good friend -but if they were that good a friend I'd know the hows and whys of what had happened that their life has apparently fallen apart/they sub let to poor choice of people etc. There is obviously a lot more to this than you're telling -however that aside I'd be telling the letting agent to do one too. You've said what you have to say to them and the matter is now closed as far as you are concerned.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

One part of me really wants to give the agent the details; the other wants to protect family and self against the consequences of so doing. That's surely a natural human response.
I know you are not judging and as I said in earlier posts, there is a complex and quite long, sad history to this friendship which is stopping me from doing the 'right' thing.
I may still do it.....0 -
OP - you asked for opinions and you've got a cross section
Just do whatever is right for you , in your circumstances and for your family, but just don't be pushed around by an LA who sounds as if he is acting like a Jack Russell terrier in a belated attempt to make up for his own shortcomings.0 -
If the place is that badly trashed, would the landlord/agent be reporting it to the police anyway?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

If the agent hasn't even asked you for contact details then you really do need to ask them, straight out, why exactly they're continuing to harrass you.0
