It is a piece of software you use to upload "things" (the pages, pictures, anything else) to the server that is hosting your website.

I can recommend smartftp, however firefox and IE both support FTP (file transfer protocol)

If you have purchased a packet, there is a good chance you will be able to do it all in a browser anyway, out of interest, who was the package from?

You don't strictly have to use an FTP program then (although it is easier) you should be able to access the "online file manager" from inside your control panel.
  • how about registering a .tk domain name? They are free and you can make it point to your existing site. http://www.dot.tk

I'm a primary school teacher and have used https://www.schools.ik.org before which would be perfect for your needs. It has a moderated guest book included and is really simple to use with page templates. What's more is it's free. You're not a school I know but they should allow you to set up a site.

I now use https://www.edublogs.org, also free and easy to use - a Brownie blog is surely the way forward!

My HTML generator software can create a 'contact us' page with PHP but my web hoster accepts Perl.

Is there an easy way to convert it?
