Tesco Optitians. 'Free' eye test?

Hello.
I would like to ask your advice, what should I do- I had an eye test at Tesco yesterday and they charged me £15 ( I know, maybe not a big money for some people, but for me.. I could buy a bus ticket for 1 week travel)
When I booked on phone an appointment with them, they said it's free for everyone, even if you don't claim any benefits.
When I said to Optitian, that I thought it's free, they explained, that I have to pay because I had an eye test for contact lenses, not for glasses...
So what should I do, to get the money back. Because I think it's not fair to say it's free and then ask for money..
Sorry if it's difficult to understand..English isn't my first language..
Thank you very much for all the good advice.
halibut2209 and keyser666 said it right- I complained at the time, and was left feeling I had no choice but to pay,was told it was free and then went and had it and was told about the £15 after the fact.
I'll call the Tesco customer service tomorrow,Monday.
Again, thank you all for your help.

When they said it was free, were there any conditions attached, ie was it only free if you then went on to buy glasses from them ?0

They explained it wasn't free because your prescription was for contact lenses.
You then paid the £15.
It seems to me that you have accepted their explanation and paid the amount requested.
You now appear to want to back out from that deal.
Is that right?
I would think your best bet is to speak to Tesco Customer Services either instore or by phone.0 -

It seems to me that they complained at the time, and was left feeling they had no choice but to pay at the time. I don't think they accepted it.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
The standard eye test is free, what you had was an eye test with a contact lense consult, hence the charge. Nothing more complicated than that.0

MSE are also publicising this offer...

I had a free eye test at tescos, I had to go back to have one of the tests redone and that was the last I heard from them.
.
A few months later had an eye test at a different opticians and mentioned the test at tescos, they called them for the prescription and was told there was no record of me as they have new computer systems.0 -
I had an eye test this week and ordered a pair of £15 glasses. I was only charged for the glasses.0

Seems the OP was told it was free and then went and had it and was told about the £15 after the fact which I don think is right.
Also the MSE offer does not mention the contact lense charge, nor is it on their website. A bit misleading IMHO0 -
You guys seem to be missing the point. Tesco's are offering a free "standard" eye test. What the OP had was not the standard eye test, hence the charge. How can it be misleading!0
