Contact your local councillor if you feel you are being fobbed off in every direction. I hope you get this sorted & why are the bullies not being punished by the school?

Sorry to hear this. I had the same problem last year, although my daughter refused to move so had to try and resolve the problem with very little help from the school.

Have you been in touch with Parenting NI? They did all they could to help and were really lovely to deal with. I also visited a local MPs office which was the only way I could get the school to take things seriously.
  • Wow.
    Just had the same experience.
I'm about to take him out of the grammar school and put him into a secondary school.

Parents are in a stronger position than they realize. Every child is worth ~£4000 for each school, per year, so if you want/need to take him out you should find that there will be a few schools who will be willing to accept your son.

    Good Luck!
    Cheers,

Just to add, things had reached the stage with my daughter where the kids responsible for the bullying were formally cautioned by the police and the school were still avoiding dealing with it.
  • If you write to the Chair of governors, it will HAVE to be dealt with as it's a written complaint. However, as others have said contact your local MP if the school are fobbing you off and make sure the school know that you've done it.

  • I know it's easy for me to say (Sorry but I haven't had experience ofthis "YET" as my kids are very young.) but why take your child out of school..... surely the bully's have just won then! I think if I was in that situation, I would make such a song and dance about the whole situation, they wouldn't have any option but to deal with it. I'd go and camp in the Heads office until they got off their a$$ and did something about it... if they wanted to call the police, they bloody well could.... It's disgraceful in this day and age that this sort of !!!! still goes on in schools (I mean the sticking their heads in the sand..... unfortunately bullying will always take place..... little sh1ts will be little sh1ts!)

I agree with the last poster.
I can't believe that the teachers will not deal with it. I would forget about the HT as they may be rubbish. I would go directly to the form teacher and head of year and ask them to sort it out. Usually bullying can be dealt with in a sensitive manner. Bullies feel powerful. Remove their power and they wither away.

There's a programme on RTE tonight where a psychologist suggests ways to deal with bullies. It sounds like it is very relevant to the OP.

I remember such teachers who were pretty much thugs who beat up children. The school I went to like this was closed down eventually.

OP as someone else suggested get the board of governors involved, I don't think you should be taking your child out of a grammar school because of this. If you do go this route you should seek legal advice against the school. This sounds like a major failure of the school not addressing the issue.
