upgraded to recorded- does that make me a scam buyer?

I bought something just over a week ago from a newish private seller. I won it for £1.04 and postage was £1 2nd class large letter under 100g
It arrived today 2nd class recorded - obviously not signed for (I never have to sign for them they are all just pushed through the door).
On the basis that newer sellers on here consider recorded to be crucial against scam buyers- does that mean the seller thought my 1000+ feedback buying account looked dodgy, or is he just happy to spend £1.64 sending an item that I only paid £2.04 for including post and packing? he made about 10p on the deal and the item was brand new and I'll sell it on for around the £6 mark.
I don't know whether to feel insulted by being considered a likely scammer, or to feel sorry for a seller that has no grasp of business at all.

I would say the person is playing it very safe in the early days of his ebay venture rather than thinking you are a scammer.0

there is playing safe and being daft though. Assuming he paid for the envelope (a rather nice one at that - one of those white ones with bubble wrap inside that the PO sell) he made a loss?
It would actually be cheaper for him to have donated this to a charity shop. I am also currently winning another handful of items from him, and it will be interesting to see if he does the same.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Very much so and you have purchased from someone daft playing it safe.
If I am being harsh, I will say they have only taken the cost of the bid, minus the stamp, so in their mind - made 40p on a small item. Result. Until of course the rest of it becomes clear.0 -

I am glad though that he appears to be genuinely having a clear out rather than trying to run a business. Although the item i bought was new, it is the sort of thing you might buy and then not need, a lot of his other stuff is games, clothes, odds and ends.
Looking at it though and assuming he upgraded all his items to recorded- he is making a hell of a loss as most are going at 99p and his postage looks inadequate for some of the goods .
I do rather fear he may have a shock when he sees that paypal have taken a cut and ebay send him a bill for the FVFs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I do try to help some of my sellers when I believe they have spent to much on postage and giving them my experience on Ebay and information gained from this forum.
Some do appreciate it, and I feel I have given something back to the community.0 -

I used to but got such a nasty response to one I did a year or so ago I don't bother now.
That one was even worse, the postage actually cost more than my total payment, so even before fees and packing etc seller had made a loss. His response when I suggested that he didn't need recorded on a 30p item was to tell me that I was obviously prepared to take XX more risk than he was and if i had had so many xxx xxx xxx scum buyers as he had I would do the same. It still didn't explain why in that case he didn't just give the stuff to charity instead of keeping selling it at a huge loss.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well if you've bid on more of his items how about suggesting that he might like to stockpile your winning bids and combine postage into one amount, that way you might save him some money on postage without appearing to offer advice.0

You'd think people who regard all buyers as scum might stop taking their money."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I had thought of that, maybe a polite 'hi there, I have won x amounts of items from you and are happy to have them all sent in the same packet'. What do you think- it isn't dictorial is it?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Nothing a reasonable seller wouldn't appreciate, particularly if you pay all at once and thus save him a few lots of 20ps on Paypal
