Hi there, the voucher i got was half price sunglasses including prescription sunglasses, but only valied until 22 may 07, think you need to spend £10 in store to get voucher, but you could look on e-bay to see how much the vouchers are being sold for.

Crabman, i have bought from that company before and have found them to be great, excellent quality and really "trendy" frames if thats what you are looking for. I would certainly use them for all my future purchases

I just posted on another thread - not sure where it is now..........but maybe an idea is to get some transitions lenses. I just got some delivered from Fashion Specs Direct and they are ideal !!!
The old pair I had displayed a slight tint indoors, and took FOREVER to change...............these new ones change really really quickly, and look completely clear. I was amazed at how much they have improved. Not sure what they improved, but they certainly work !!!!

Transitions aren't much good for driving as they don't work through glass (or so my optician told me when I went for some the week before last).
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Hmm, I usually get thinner lenses - the frame I currently wear is almost (if not) identical to this one and my prescription strength is -4.0 and -4.5.

Anyone think that's going to look overly thick, or know what actual thickness those may look like at the edges?? At the moment I have 1.6 thinner lenses in my current frames which are 3mm thick at the outer edges. Can I simply calculate 3 x 1.6 = 4.8mm at edge?

I heard somewhere that the thinner the lens, the less able it is to take up a tint, something along those lines... crabby confused!

Now I'm not an ooptician, but so far as I'm aware - when you have minus lenses, the thickness depends on two factors. The higher the refractive index, e.g. 1.56, 1.6, 1.67, 1.74, the thinner the lens. However the biggest factor is the frame size. Because minus lenses are thin in the middle and go thicker towards the edge, the further away the edge (in other words the larger the frame) the thicker the lenses will be. You can see information on the frame size measurements HERE.

An expensive 1.67 lens in a large frame might be thicker than a standard lens in a small frame. You can't do the calculation you mention, it doesn't work.

On the subject of tints, you can make them as light or dark as you like no matter how thick the lens because they are just absorbed into the material, the longer they are left in the tint, the darker they are. However, because photochromic (Transitions) lenses have the photochromic factor manufactured into the material, they will go slightly darker in thicker lenses.

    Hope this helps.

OK second time lucky (the site crashed when I submitted the first time)

I'm after some glasses & prescription sunglasses. After finding out that vision express and their "2 for £99" only applies to about 20 frames in the whole selection, I'm looking elsewhere so I can price-match them against their overinflated prices.

    Thanks peeps

    Crabster :D

    Crabman,

I posted this info in another thread, but here goes -

Fashion Specs Direct have introduced free prescription sunglasses when you buy a pair of ordinary prescription glasses. The free pair are the same style as the ordinary pair you ordered. There's more details on their site here.

The ooffer applies to specs £19.95 and upwards, so you could have two pairs of specs for twenty quid!

Hope this may be of use to you.

I have just bought new designer glasses from https://www.eyesdirect.co.uk and saved £200 on what my local optician was going to charge.

They are really friendly and helpful - give them a go!
