Rip Off??
                    Hey Guys.
I'm am currently using orange and paying £56.86 a month on my contract. I just phoned to be upgraded to the Iphone 5 and they wanted £109 straight up for £36 a month or £29.99 for £41 a month.
I dont think i should be paying for the phone as i'm already paying £600 plus a year with them. Should I just go for the £29.99 payment or hold off and try to get it for nothing?? I'm pretty much tied to orange as i cant change my number as i use it for work. I haven't told them that tho! Anyone out there who has got the Iphone 5 for nothing??
I know my bills will go down but it just seems a little unfair has i have been with orange over 10 years.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! x

It is a rip off, but that's because it's an iPhone, they are always going to have a high price when they're brand new.0

I don't think it is a rip off when you think how much a new phone would cost you then add the cost of a contract on top of that.First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0

Well, they seem to have a different opinion.I'm am currently using orange and paying £56.86 a month on my contract. I just phoned to be upgraded to the Iphone 5 and they wanted £109 straight up for £36 a month or £29.99 for £41 a month.

 109+24*36=973
 30+24*41=1014
Personally, I would never pay this sort of money for a mobile toy. However, if the airtime is the same, 109-30=£79 loan will cost you £41 over 2 years that is in fact 54% APR. You decide.
Nonsense. Number can be ported to any network.I'm pretty much tied to orange as i cant change my number as i use it for work.
It is never 'for nothing'. It's always a 'loan' and usually an expensive one.Anyone out there who has got the Iphone 5 for nothing??
 Orange Retention Offers
Loyalty doesn't cost much nowadays.I know my bills will go down but it just seems a little unfair has i have been with orange over 10 years.0

Try to get a sim free Iphone & a cheaper mobthly contract if you can stomach the initial £529 cost for the handset.0

So the new tariff is going to be £15-20 cheaper per month but you have to pay for the phone.....if you are still in contract I'd say it was a good deal.
If you are out of contract then just go somewhere else if you can get a better deal.
As a general rule - if you want the latest and greatest anything you will have to pay for it.0

So by your logic, because I've been shopping at Tesco's for 10+ years, they should give me some free shopping instead of paying for it??I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

There is always an upfront cost with the iphone unless you go for a ridiculously high monthly charge (which is never worth it)
Like others have said you are not tied to orange at all, if your contract is finished just cancel it and ask for your PAC code. You are then free to go and get your overpriced phone from any network you choose 0 0
