Buy a kit car

  • What a silly idea you have!

I'd like to point out that perhaps you should ensure that you can ensure food and a sound home for your family first.

If you are soon to have no funding/ wages in 4 months, I'd be looking at saving and not spending.

Or even better stil if you must spend... Put the money to good use and spend it on your new business start up, you can't start with 0

Ok assj, I think I should reply to your post, firstly I don't see my idea as a silly one. It may sound silly to someone who has no interest in the subject of this post. Probably most of the people who have kit cars also have the similar concerns and responsibilities as me but they are able to make compromises and achieve their goals.

This is something I have been wanting to do for over 8 years and still not done so, this is not something I have just decided a few weeks ago. Hopefully this is enough to show that this has never been a priority of mine over the points you mentioned above.

Good point! That is what my other post is all about :) (Can't post link as I am new user)

Originally, this post was not placed in this section of the forum, it was placed in a location where I could get some ideas from others on how to pay for such an item perhaps on an interim basis, etc.

Thanks again for your input, it is much appreciated.

...how do you go about paying for something like this I one lump sum? What are my interest free loan options?
Do you mean you have cash in the bank to pay for this or that you need a way of financing this?
If the latter, then I'd suggest it's not a great idea.

Just look at the number of unfinished projects for sale.

Many many more sitting if sheds and garages or dark corners which will never see the road.

Getting a loan for one is madness. Unless you have the tools and skills
    and have done one before.

I would have to borrow the money to do this. I am trying to save, and have been doing so for a long time.

You dont sound like sort of person that crawls under a car in all weathers.

Have you worked on a car before? At what level? What about tools?

Decent jack? Not a £30 cheapo job. Engine crane, Gearbox jacks, Sockets, Spanners, Spring compressors?
    Air Compressor/Welder?

When i started working on cars the tools cost as much as a garage would charge to do the job. But eventually you get enough tools to tackle most jobs.

I learnt early on not to buy cheap tools.

Well over 20 years ago i bought a Kamasa socket set... Its still going strong.
Never broke a socket or the wratchet. Even though i hit it with a hammer to shock rusty bolts free.

Are the modern ones any good now though?

Yes, I am I carry out 95% of repairs on my own cars in the past.

Yes, I know enough to get by and also my father has over 30 years mechanics experience and we often work on things together.

I have tools, but not everything to build a kit car from scratch. I have a jack, axel stands, single garage.

Some seem good, some seem not so good...

    Please note:

Based on current threads and discussions, thinking about my current positions, and speaking with my family, etc. I have decided to put all this kit car dream on hold again at the moment. This will help me to focus on my priorities.

Thanks again for your input, help and support, it is much appreciated.

Sorry did I misunderstand your post, are you stating the positive points of a Honda Hayabusa bike engine for a bike engined kit car?. That all sounds quite good to me :) whats the catch ?

    The Suzuki engine.
