New Sofa

I moved recently and after reading bad reviews about DFS I went with another popular store, CSL.

I bought a 3 seater and a 2 seater which arrived in less than a week so no complaints there.

A month later and it looked like I'd picked it up at a junk yard. I was told I needed to 'plump' it twice a day. If that was explained to me before I bought it I would have thought they were joking!

Anyway I'm going to put it on Gumtree or Ebay and buy a new one.

I'm not going to make the mistake of buying a cheap one again (I spent £900 on both) so I'm looking for advice on where to get a new sofa from. I'm looking at spending less than £3000 and want something that looks good and won't age quickly.

I've done a quick Google search and have been overwhelmed with results. Does anyone have any recommendations?

John Lewis, or M&S - both excellent but pricey. Within your price range though.

I can't believe people spend good money at CSL/DFS etc.

I've tried to return it but they wouldn't accept. The best offer they gave was to upgrade the fibre cushions to foam for £32.50 each. I don't think it's acceptable and have no intention of wasting more time on it. I've learned my lesson and won't be buying from there again.

if they're feather they do need plumping - I had a sofa workshop sofa that was v expensive with feather cushions and that used to need doing every day to look lovely.

we have ekornes stressless now and love them - much better for our backs than soft squishy sofas

Try Stokers website for some inspiration. M&S sofas I've seen recently are very poor.
  • We have had our Next sofa's for three years and they still look like new. I do plump them/turn over seat and back cushions weekly but they are really hardwearing.

Laura Ashley also does nice quality sofas, as do John Lewis.

    Hope that helps.
  • If you want a contemporary sofa, I can recommend this place....

Excellent quality and nowhere near expensive as Natuzzi, etc.

avoid harveys there stuff is utter crap
our 2 new sofas have problems one with knife marks-which they say are natural marks in the leather and one really soft cushion and the other is creaky and is misaligned there is a gap between the seats and when you recline them they run into each other
as harveys decided the blade marks were natural they wont come out to investigate the other faults so we now have to get an independant inspection done and see how that goes although at the moment cant justify spending another £100+ before christmas

Did you pay any part of the balance on a credit card? You could use Section 75 protection. They have a legal obligation to help you, so don't let them fob you off. The longer you wait the more tricky it becomes to successfully reject the goods.

    Yes, all of it.

I gave up with them at first but if there's a new path for me to go down then I'd like to do that. Can you tell me more about that?
