Hotel booking cancelled

Hi all

Just after a bit of advice.

I booked a room in a hotel some 2 months ago. It was at a De Vere hotel and I booked it in their recent sale. The booking was for this Saturday and was a surprise for my Wifes birthday (actual day).

I have just received a phone call from the hotel to advise that due to a computer error they don't have my booking and that the hotel is full. They have offered a refund and another night BB free of charge for another date.

Looking for advice as to whether this is enough compensation or should I be asking for maybe DBB or BB with drinks etc. We were looking forward to geting away and had arranged baby sitters etc for our three young kids. Its always quite hard to get someone to watch the kids at short notice.

Just wondering if i have a contract with the booking or what I should do or do you think they have just picked me because they need the room and i only paid a fraction of the price.

Thanks in advance

You are being offered a free night, it is more than enough! By all means ask for more, but don't be surprised if they tell you where to go.

I reaise that its the fact that i booked it on 2/8/12 and only get the call 2 days before i go. Its not often we get the chance of a night away and manage to get someone to watch the kids obernight as three can be hard work.

Are they legally entitled to cancel our booking at such short notice.

    Thanks for your input

How do they know you booked if they dont have your booking? Sounds fishy . At such short notice I would be most annoyed at the let down and inconvenience. I would stress to them that it was for a special occasion and suggest they may offer you a full upgrade room and dinner incl to make up for your disapointment. Write to the manager, not just a call to the desk staff.

Well yes it is legal, as long as they compensate. I think its fair enough
for them to give you a refund of the whole amount and another night free. Try and ask them for the DBB and see where it goes.

You could book another hotel nearby surely with the refund you are getting. Tell us the details and we will fnd one for you.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I wouldnt get one wityh the refund, the rooms were online at £85-£150 room only when i booked. I got it for £19.

Its not the fact about the refund its the inconvience of planning the overnight and organising baby sitters etc

It was Barony Castle near peeble and its out in the country nice and quiet. Was looking forward to the peace and quiet, nice food etc.

Will just need to reschdule i suppose

    thanks again

Did you book and pay them direct and get a confirmation email at the time?
I am amazed at the other respondants are so laid back, Its outragious for them to do this. They pulled the plug on a lovely night away at short notice..get the manager on the ph for answers and a satisfactory soloution.
where hotel is it? Its hard to find a Sat night at a decent hotel at short notice .
You had a contract with them, and they pulled out. Dont see offering comp makes that legal.

I know the Barony Castle, normal room rates often go on laterooms cheaper than you said.
