I'm possibly going to get shot down in flames for saying this but if a dog is aggressive towards people then it should probably get PTS depending obviously how bad it is. I know of two incurably aggressive dogs that ended up having to be PTS despite everyone's best efforts.

If it's dog aggressive then thats a different matter BUT the methods CM uses are not necessary, I've watched him choke a dog by tying a lead further up it's neck and I've watched the dog gulp to try and get air. Bear in mind this dog was walking past another dog fine until he kicked it, then the dog reacted (and I don't blame it). When this dog finally gave up he pulled it to the ground, held it down by the neck, all the while this dog was gulping and breathing heavily. It hadn't submitted like he said it had; he had half choked it to death!

Victoria has dealt successfully with two aggressive dogs; one was an American Bulldog, the other was a dalmation. She used positive re-inforcement training and got results.

The difference between her and CM is that she looks for reasons behind the dog's behaviour, he just looks to dominate them into behaving and this stores up trouble for later.

I firmly believe there are other methods you can use, GR if you'd have seen the way he was treating this dog aggressive dog you really would not want him doing it to Zara, it wasn't pleasant to watch at all.

Did not watch the programme but a little perspective.

RSPCA will put an agressive dog down but they criticise CM fo saving the same dog by his "brutal" methods. Interesting.

Victoria Stilwell - can someone point me to where SHE has dealt with a REALLY agressive dog and all was great?

I am NOT defending anyone/attacking anyone, just putting a bit of perspective into all this.

I don't think euthanasia is the worst thing that can happen to a dog. If I had an aggressive dog and had to choose between euthanasia and sending to Cesar Milan, never in a million years would I send my dog off to go through the physical and mental abuse he dishes out in the name of "rehabilitation".
Victoria Stilwell has dealt with similar issues to CM, there were clips circulated of how she dealt with resource guarding in comparison to how CM dealt with the Labrador Holly, for example. It just makes less "interesting" TV because it is all done at the dog's pace with no explosive confrontations.
CM and Victoria Stilwell are not the only trainers in the world either. I am a member of a couple of forums that do advocate reward based training and have seen many of the members on there - some trainers, some behaviourists, some just very dedicated owners - turn around some serious cases without so much as raising a hand to the dog. There is one particular member on there who's taken in many 'last chance' aggressive dogs, and turned them around so they've been safe to rehome, without CM-type methods.
She goes into details of methods used on one particular dog if you want a read - http://www.druidalegsd.karoo.net/training.htm

I think thats it, if not type in "shadow turns blue" on youtube. And no I didn't just watch this one, I watched a few and didn't like what I saw in any of them.

Exactly this. I've seen Victoria deal with some very aggressive dogs. She's not always successful but no animal behaviourist is. Sometimes badly abused animals have to be euthanised.

The RSPCA don't always put dogs down if they are aggressive - it depends how aggressive and whether they can be worked with.

It makes me feel quite dirty to agree with Alan Titchmarsh on something but here I have to.

Alan Titchmarsh dug into Cesar's methods. The whole earth was uprooted at the news and finally we got to see into the roots of the training method.

I've never felt comfortable with CM's techniques. If he attacked any dog of mine in such a manner I'd want to kill him.

I actually like CM and i think in theory and practice he does a good job. I dont agree with ALL of his methods but if people took a little more of his advise and actually treated a dog like a dog then i dont think we would be hearing of all these horror stories we read about.

And as for the RSPCA ... Dont even get me started on those self important idiots!!!

AT is a twit and should go back to gardening .. oh but not on TV, his last TV show on gardening was appalling :rotfl:

The bits of Millan I like is that he says dogs have to be walked but then that's not exactly an original idea dogs have been taken for walks long before he came on the scene. What I don't like about him is, he kicks dogs, he punches them, he asphyxiates them, he uses prong, shock and his own idiotic illusion collar on them. of the top of my head that's it but if I thought about it for a few seconds I could come up with more.
