Travelling with dogs

We use to take our two huge huskys to dog training on the back seat of a KA
They loved it !
Molly is naturally nosy so she just use to look out the window. End result doggy nose prints ALL over the window. OH was not pleased and made me clean it!
Codey on the other hand use to lay down and crash out I think the noise of the car and the vibrations work for him like they do on some babies
The doggy nose prints are part of our car! And the dog hairs...and the drool marks...and sand from the beach. My old dog used to always select a massive stone from the beach, guard it, wash it with his tongue and insist on taking it home with him in the car.
Then he'd take it to his basket and snuggle up to it. People used to say they never saw him without a huge rock in his mouth. Needless to say his teeth were wrecked, but apart from muzzling him, I just couldn't stop him.0 -

Awww bless him
Molly loves teddy bears she steals them. They go in her crate and she uses them as a pillow. Until Codey gets hold of them and destroys them in a matter of seconds wicked horrible boy
I have the same in my front room the patio doors are normally covered in muddy paw prints, nose prints and drool.
If I have put them outside so I can hoover ect in front room and Codey decides I am ignoring him he will find the muddest part of the garden stomp all over it then jump at the glass dragging his paws down it :mad:First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
I have a Peugeot 106 and Tyson goes in the boot without the parcel shelf. He used to lie on the back seat with a harness on, but one day as I was getting the shopping out of the boot he jumped in.
He won't travel any other way now!
From the outside he looks pretty squished but he seems to be happy that way!0 -
We're also starting to think of a replacement for our Seat Ibiza (bought pre-dog) which will fit in our 2 greyhounds. Currently we have back seats down and secure them with car harnesses, not sure how effective they'd be in a crash but stops the dogs being able to rush out when the boots open until they've been released.
My uncle has a Citroen Berlingo and boot looks plenty big enough and being boxy it has good head room, so the similar van type cars might be worth a look too. Not the most stylish, but seems a good practical option.0 -
I've got a Berlingo for my 3 dogs with a tailgate guard

I've been looking at Berlingo, are they expensive to buy/run?0

I never have people in the back seats so I got a Nissan Almera Tino (mini people carrier) that has back seats that pop out. I just store the seats in the garage and my Mastiff has the range of the back.
If you want a left-field idea, old London Taxis have massive amounts of space in them for both people and dogs. I used to have one of the 'proper' shaped ones (Fairway Driver), put a jump seat on the front passenger side and then you have a 3-seater bench seat in the back with 3 seat belts and tons of floor space for dogs. You've also got a large boot...and best of all you can close the perspex partition between driver and back so you don't have to hear the kids ;-)“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Thanks for starting the thread, OP. My new-to-us rescue dog (husky/GS) will need to learn to travel in my little car (Clio) and I needed ideas on what would be best for us.0
