Not necessarily. I've called companies while at a friends or visiting family and the company has automatically recorded that number as a contact number for me even though I have no link to the number other than knowing the person who owns it.

I dont think its reasonable for companies to do this. The contact numbers I provide to a company are how I have authorised them to contact me.

The company could land themselves in hot water if the OP can show they have informed them the number doesnt belong to their parents and that they have asked virgin to remove it. They'd be in hotter water if - especially after being told that the phone number doesnt belong to the account holder - they give out any account details to the OP.

I think it's their sales department. By all accounts, they're pretty aggressive when it comes to marketing and you're not the only one to be suffering, OP.

A quick google unearths lots of complaints about this number, the most useful link being the one below which, if you scroll down a little, gives you an address to write to to lodge a complaint.

I, too, had lots and lots of hassle from Virgin Media sales, but in terms of their writing to me, not phoning me. I got them to stop in the end but I had to contact their complaints department too.

Write to Richard Branson and tell him his poxy sales technique stinks.
