How long does it take for a direct debit to show at your banks end?

IIRC PayPal was showing quite quickly, but i can't remember exactly.

Basically, between Tesco & TSB someone is looking like costing me the 4% interest rate for the Vantage accounts as i HAD the required direct debits set up but now they've been cancelled at both ends. I'm currently waiting on a call back from Tesco to explain why.

So i've had to re-set up direct debits from Tescos end & hope they're showing on TSBs end on or before 31st October in order to get the 4%.

As Tesco don't look like they can be trusted, i was considering shifting some other direct debits i have onto these accounts temporarily - credit cards, broadband for example. If there's a way to have 2 PayPal DDs then i could try that.

Just wondering how long it takes to show at your banks end if all is done online?

Anything upto 14 days, but typically shows up within 3 working days.

Thanks. So i may or may not be out of luck.

I have no idea at all why there was a problem with the direct debits. Even Tesco don't know. Some were taken, some were not.

Wont be impressed if this costs me the entire lot @ the 4%.

You can't have too many DDs, so setup the Paypal DD. If the Tesco DDs fix themselves, then super.

If you have a driving license, you can setup a Nationwide mySave online, which will setup a DD for the initial deposit. Or at least it did do last time I opened one (about 12 months ago). If you don't have a DL, you could attempt the electronic identification check, but that may take longer.

Thing is, we've only got 5 more working days until the timeframe passes which i don't think would be enough to set up a MySave (i'm eligible) AND sort the direct debit for it too.

I do have a few credit cards & my broadband bill is another which i could move until Tesco sort themselves out. Once/IF the Tesco ever gets up & running, i can then move the others back.

It might not be, but if it is, you've got another DD. If it occurs too late, you can just decide not to use it. It's not going to cost anything.

CCs and BB may take longer, as there will be more human intervention required.
  • If you sign up NOW for the enhanced vantage and you do not have the requited d/d set up this month you will not get any interest for this month BUT you will next month and then for the next 10 months.
Surely 11 months is better than nothing so don't give up yet.

Not my epxerience - - I got the 4% interest for September, when my DDs weren't set up yet. No reason why they should have different rules for October. However, I reckon that from November onwards they will check whether the 2 DDs exist.

That's what they've said. 4% paid for September and October irrespective of DDs, but if they don't see them on 1st November, your 4% gets turned off and never get turned back on again.

Ah don't you just love conflicting information.

Well, i set up the direct debits for 2 Tesco accounts for ALL my Vantage accounts at the same time (or rather 1 after the other).
1 is showing today. I would've thought they'd either all show at the same time or none at all. Still, 1 is better than none.
