Actually, My B&Q loo does the same Katrina. It was fitted just before I moved it 2.5 years ago. Its really annoying isn't it. BF adjusted the valve which helped but didn't solve the problem completly. Also the plug in my bath no longer pops up when I turn the knob (!) so I have to use my fingernails to lift it up which is a pain!

rip off to the max. Buy the suite yourself and get some quotes for the work. DONT buy taps etc from B+Q go to plumbing trade counter. My brotherlaw charges roughy £1500 to rip out old bathroom, install new one and do all the tiling electrics etc. He also gets the tiles etc at trade price for his customers. He also works 7 days a week as has no shortage of customers.

I replaced the bathroom in a house I was selling two years ago. Costs were

    B&Q budget suite £199
Plumber to remove old and replace with new £250
Tiles floor and half wall £150
Tiler £350 (would have done it myself but was in a hurry)
Wallpaper (top half of walls) and paint £50.

Total £999 and it looked good.

Obviously I used the cheapest suite I could get as I was selling and appearance was all but it gives you the idea.

    Thanks Landy,

Well, he went to B&Q and their prices are fixed, theres a set price for each thing and no haggling with them.

So he has left it for now and having read what I have on here I think he should look elsewhere for now.

    Thanks again

Avoid B&Q and go to your local plumbers merchant, far better quality and usually cheaper.

We got our bathroom from B&Q, simply because they were the only place we could find a suitable short, shower bath, to take a straight screen.

The trouble we had getting an appointment with them for a computer design session, in store, messed us about with cancelling appointments, or offering 8am time slots!! They admitted they didn't want to do this for customers not letting them install, so we said we needed a quote for both.

Initially they wouldn't honour the 15% & extra 20% complete suite discounts offered last summer - they said that as we were ordering seperate components, it wasn't a 'complete' suite!! Eventually after 7months of ordering, they refunded the overcharge - after we produced their publicity material stating the word 'ALL'!!!

Anyway, the suite cost around £800 & their fitting would have been £1200 just for the removal & install - extra for tiles & everything else, so we did this & got independent plumber & it was around £500.

BQ suite for 200 quid. any plumber should fit it for about 500.
then get a local chap to do the wall tiling and floor etc..
shouldnt cost anywhere like a total of 4 grand!
    Get some gorm.

that is such alot of money,. Dh is a fitter he does the whole job, from start to finish and for a basic change and tiling new rad etc in the region of £1000 labour.
so £800 for the suite even if you pay max about £500 for tiles grout and new rad that is still £2k less than B&Q their fitters are self employed to therefore its possible that if the fitter has done a crap job they will have a nightmare getting them back, (mind you they wont get paid) this is not in all cases i hasten to add, you might get a good fitter that has worked with them for years, but its a much of a gamble as getting someone from the yellow pages,
phone some local people from the papers and get quotes ask for references etc, if they are good at what they do they will provide this
