B & Q bathroom & fitting?

My boyfriend is keen to get his bathroom changed. Ideally he would like someone to do everything, rip out existing old green suite and tiles, fit the new suite, tile the walls and floor and replace the radiator with a new heated towel rail. Its quite a small bathroom.
He has given B & Q and room plan and they have quoted him £4200 altogether including one of there cheapest suites (£800) This is actually a better quote then some he has had which were more like 5k.
He is going tonight after work to discuss this with them. What I want to know is, can he negotiate a better deal or will they refuse to budge on this price? If so, what sort of discount would he be likly to get at a push?
He recently re-morgaged to free up some money for this project but there would still be a shortfall on £4200 so the extra would probably go on an interest free CC so every pound knocked off helps!
Thanks!
Sarah

Hi Sarah...Katrina here
How you doing?
My friend got a B&Q bathroom and although it is really nice (can't fault it) she says she wished she got her own fitters in. She wasn't happy at all with B&Q fitters she felt ripped off. But of course you won't have the same fitters she did!! To cut a long story short she said they were like cowboys.
Not sure about the discount bit but you can only ask eh? At the end of the day he is gonna have a stunning bathroom:D
Good luck xxYou may walk and you may run

Hiya Katrina! I'm really good thanks! I don't often bump into you on here!
Thanks for thye advice, the bathroom shop that quoted 5k said the same about B&Q but they seemed professional and garranteed the work just like the more expensive shop. My sis is having B&Q in to do her bathroom very soon so it will be interesting to see how she finds them, she is VERY partricular!

If I remember right though the B&Q here actually don't have 'proper' B&Q fitters...they call people in but charge alot more than if we got someone out of the yellow pages!! But alls good we are getting a massive B&Q built and proper B&Q lorries!!! Wooo hoooo Inverness has gone up in the world!!
I reckin it will turn out perfect oh yeah and good luck to your sister hope hers turn out brill too.
Take care

if you know anyone who works in b&Q talk to them nicely, they get 20% off (staff discount) for all things...0

Thanks Katrina, he would rather have a recommendation or go with a known company than pick someone out of the yellow pages even though it might be much cheaper, as its a job that involves several tademan, plumber, plasterer and tiler and it would also hopefully be quicker and easier to organise. He could stay with me for a week and come back and have it all done, which would be brilliant!
Nick - good idea! I don't think we know anyone though, don't suppose we could pretend the house is his dads and get the pensioners discount? LOL

If they refuse to budge on price, just thank them for their time and say you will have to look elsewhere to get the work done. See if that gets a positive reaction."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0

rip off to the max. Buy the suite yourself and get some quotes for the work. DONT buy taps etc from B+Q go to plumbing trade counter. My brotherlaw charges roughy £1500 to rip out old bathroom, install new one and do all the tiling electrics etc. He also gets the tiles etc at trade price for his customers. He also works 7 days a week as has no shortage of customers.0

I'm looking into re-doing my bathroom too, but wouldn't go near B&Q at those prices. I'm going to get this suite

Free delivery, steel bath and taps included - bargainAsk around friends, family and work people for recommendations for people to do the work. It will definately be cheaper to get a plumber, tiler and plasterer in seperately than go through a company. I'm in NW London and reckon the plumbing will be about £500 to £600 for a good job, i'll do the tiling and flooring myself

Before we married three years ago, my hubby had recently had a new bathroom and kitchen done by B & Q. The standard of work was appalling.
Floor tiles were grouted only shallowly in the corners of the rooms and within weeks the grout was cracking and breaking out, leaving narrow gullies that were impossible to clean properly.
Taps were not tightened properly, steel screws were used to fix the loo to the floor - within weeks, they rusted and left stains on the porcelain and the floor tiles. The standard was so poor that B & Q are now, in my mind, forever out of the running.
For my former home, now tenanted, I got a decent suite from Screwfix, had it fitted by local tradesmen of good repute and the whole bathroom refurb. cost me a lot less than £4k!0 -
EMMET Thats the exact same one I got..but out of focus for about the same price, steel bath perfect...sink perfect....flush on the tiolet lasted 3 months and NO one will fix it for me!! keeps flushing.... water slooshing into the bowl until I turn it off at the valve (on the pipe work) plumbers tell me whats wrong with it but won't come out and fix it????You may walk and you may run
