Just be careful in future of making assumptions. If you're not certain then ask here. Remember, you only get one chance to complain-so get it right first time if you want any chance of success.ToffeePoppetFan wrote: »help in a positive way rather than simply pointing out my failings.:(0 -
keep us posted
just to clarify - I have sent the letter to edinburgh (not manchester, sorry), to the data protection manager, I have a copy somewhere, can e-mail it to you if you want? 0 -
Update - phoned RBS PPI help team yesterday and spoke to a very nice guy who could not have been more helpful!
He has given me two addresses to write to (one for the loan (Loan Info Team in Manchester) and one for the credit cards (Card Retail Operations in Southend). When I explained that both loan and credit cards were more than 6 years ago, he asked when the loan was paid off , and when I replied 2005 he said "oh, that's quite recent!" So it just goes to show that you shouldn't be put off if your PPI was more than 6 years ago.
Thanks for the offer of a copy of your letter Marta R, but the guy I spoke to was so precise that he basically told me exactly what to put in the letter! Did explain that it could take up to 40 days for the info to come back which sounds long until you realise that Christmas is about the same length of time - and it sure feels as if is coming soon!!
So, I will get the letters off this weekend and wait with anticipation. The guy at RBS advised that, once the info comes back, if I want to go ahead with a claim I should just phone back and give them this info and they will ask a couple of questions (including why I think PPI was mis-sold) and then they will investigate!0 -
Where has the letter to go to? If it's the Loan Information Team, I got a letter back from them saying as I had mentioned PPI I should be getting in touch with the PPI Customers Concerns Team.
They gave me a reference number to put on the letter and told me how to ask to make sure everything was looked into.
I supplied them with no information whatsoever with regards to loan details and I suspect the one they paid out on was older than 6 years (Interest was around the same as the PPI I'd paid).0 -
Hi Scotsman4th, thanks for the advice - yes, it was the Loan Information Team that I was told to send the letter to concerning my loan - but it was the guy I spoke to in the PPI Customer Concerns Team
that told me to do this - very confusing! I have already posted my letter to them yesterday, so maybe at the very least I will get a letter back with a reference number to quote when calling the PPI Customer Concerns Team back - it sounds as though the reference number might mean something to them that we don't realise! Fingers crossed for some success!

Hi - I've just stumbled across this thread and been reading through it. I've just had claims for PPI upheld on a chain of 3 loans with RBS taken out between 1997 and 2000.
Like you I was unsure of how to get the loan account numbers so sent a SAR letter to the RBS address in Edinburgh. I didn't hear anything for a couple of months so simply phoned the RBS PPI complaints number and they told me to write to the loan information team as you have done. Within a couple of weeks they came up with account numbers for a total of 8 loans, of which they were able to inform me that the most recent 3 (the ones taken out between 1997 and 2000) all had PPI on. Your loan was more recent than that so I would imagine that they won't have any trouble in 1) Giving you the account number and 2) Being able to say whether you had PPI on it or not.0 -
Thanks Eastlands 70 - it is lovely of you to let me know that I am going in the right direction at last! Congratulations on getting your claims upheld :T - it is good to hear a success story!! Just out of interest, on what basis were you mis-sold your loans? You might have seen from earlier in the thread that I am unsure if I had PPI on my loan. I didn't need it (or want it!) when the loan was taken out as I would have been paid by my employer if off ill for up to 12 months - so if I have been paying for it unwittingly then I will definitely be raising a claim! But thanks for the encouragement ... I need all I can get!0

No problem - just thought it might be of use to share my experiences of the same bank when pursuing my claim.
My reasons for mis-sell were basically twofold - that the PPI was "front-loaded". In other words the PPI premium was added to the loan amount at the start which meant that I was paying interest on both the loan and the PPI, and also that PPI was never discussed with me when applying for the loans in any face-to-face meetings at my branch - basically the PPI was just added to the loan amount.
Assuming it transpires that you did have PPI on your loan, I'd have thought your own reasons for complaint outlined above would be more than adequate to get a successful outcome. Good luck!0
