That's rather nasty, in my opinion. Anyone can overlook something or be distracted and its very unreasonable not to send a single reminder- not suggesting repeated reminders, just a single one after the usual ebay time limit for paying has passed, that's all.

No need for any additional nastiness or spiteful behaviour in this world, there is way more than enough already.

I think you are forgetting that ebay remind as well as the buyers account will show that they have outstanding payments to make. Also opening an nPB is in itself a reminder and if buyer pays then dispute is closed

When you say reminder - you don't email them do you? I just send a total on day 4 - then your words can't be taken out of context.

Then on day 6-7 i file a NPB.

Then what? Apart from winding up buyers and making you look a bit naive what else have you achieved?

Sellers cannot even open an NPB until day 4 and close It 4 days, after, any other seller imposed time fame is a waste of space.

I send an invoice at auction end, another one on day 3 or 4 and then open anNPB on day 4 or 5, I do not email the buyer at all, after all what could I possibly say?

If they don't pay within whatever timeframe you've set you send them a message along the lines of:

    "Hi,

It's now been x days since you won this item however I am still waiting for payment. As stated in the item description payment is required within x days, however I am willing to extend this by another y days. Please let me know if you are having any problems paying within this time. Unfortunately if you do not contact me or make payment within this time I will have to open a case with eBay.

    Thanks"

Then if they pay you send the item, if they don't pay but contact you then you can ask when they will be able to pay and decide for yourself if you're willing to wait and if they neither pay nor contact you it is then reasonable to open a case.

As a frequent buyer I can assure you that you would wind them up much more by just opening a case against them with no attempt to contact them first and nothing in the description to say payment is expected within a given timeframe. It comes across as rude in the same way that it would if a buyer were to open a case without contacting the seller about the problem first.

Really- you would suggest threatening a buyer with a strike is a good idea?

ebay say it is reasonable to open a case on day 4 and I do tend to agree. I suppose small sellers with a lot of time on their hands could babysit their buyers through the 'difficult' process of actually paying what they buy, some of us prefer to run a business and treat our buyers as though they are adults and know what they are doing.

If you are a frequent buyer then you will know how many reminders you get about items being unpaid via the system. I still cannot see why setting your own time limit and reminding the buyer of that time limit is in anyway helpful at all? If a buyer is incapable of understanding how ebay works- ie you bid you pay, then they are not going to be savvy enough to read a sellers auction blurb asking them to make payment in xx days.

Whenever I buy on eBay, I pay straight away, so I can never quite understand people who drag their feet! If you bought an item through another another online seller, they wouldn't let you take a week or so to pay! Hay ho - the joys of eBay!

It is better to not remind buyers at all.

Once a buyer has won an auction wait until day 4 and if they havent paid then open a non payer bidder dispute. You can then close it 4 days to the minute later.

I don't see how it's better not to remind them.

If a gentle reminder results in them paying surely that's a better way of working.

I send an invoice after a day and a half. Maybe, I'm a bit hasty!

As ebay send out payment reminders, some buyers may feel getting messages from ebay and the seller is too much.

    My course.
Invoice pretty much straight away and then let ebay takeover for me. Simply because I have better things to do than chase people around for payment. Yesterday for example I had 8 people buy and not pay (all buy it now items on my listings) and had 4 this morning. As trade builds leading up to Christmas this will increase so the system ebay have in place is fine for me.

I have discovered a lot of people think they have paid after purchasing via their phone app and after 4 days, they get the reminder from ebay and they contact me to apologise and pay

That's fair enough - I've always paid straight away because it doesn't seem right not to - cant buy something without paying for it!

I've never had any emails from eBay reminding as a result. As a seller I wasn't aware that eBay did this either (admittedly I don't use the site much anymore due to the amount of hassle in the last 12 months)

Looking at the ones where I have a NPD open the communication has gone

    Day of purchase - Invoice
2 days later - ebay have sent the buyer a purchase reminder
4 days later - NPD opened, so thats another reminder sent.

So, first 4 days they have had 3 reminders plus the fact the actually know they purchased it.
