Yes quite - but unfortunately doesn't help when trying to prove residence (if you have no other official docs in your name at the correct address) and the house buying process.

So, if YBS won't accept your council tax bill (and this may be to do with whats been revealled on the credit profile search re linked to another addresses), then you definately do need to change your bank account to your correct address, again they'll need POR for your bank to effect the change, but hopefully they will accept the council tax bill, and your passport as photo ID (avoid using your DL as this will just cause more issues, as this is at the wrong address too !).

Also tell YBS why you can't provide personal utility bills (please, although tempting, DO NOT engineer/fabricate or do any other Blue Peter work, on manufacturing utility bills that aren't actually in your name ... it won't pass their status/CRA checks) - this as you say isn't a isolated arrangement, they will have come across this before, but then we are back to official identity docs being registered to your correct primary residence - which we know they currently aren't ..... so you can see something will have to give to move forward with this.

YBS have a legal obligation and requirement to verify POI and POR - they aren't trying to be awkward honestly, so get them on side and work with them ... sit down with the adviser, tell them the whole address situ, and see what they can get the UWs to accept to meet the POR requirements - but changing your bank and DL etc may be the requirement they make .. so be prepared !

Here's a link I've dug out for you to correct your DL address, if you are driving you should do this asap, as I believe its a fine and points (pretty sure thats correct) if you are pulled over for any reason and given a producer by Mr PC.

Hope this helps ... wish you well

  • Passports do not have addresses on, so do not need to be changed.

DL have to have an address where you are contactable at, it does not need to be your main residence, which is why many students leave it registered at a parents house while in halls. This is not illegal, and has been debated over and over on here.

However, not being on the electoral role and having incorrect address on bank statements is likely to throw up 'computer says no' problems. I'd get a broker onto this, especially if you have told the lender you've lived at x address for x number of years, when all your documents say you've lived at y for that time.

My passport so I imagine all, has space for your address details and contactable in emergency details at the back - if this has been prev completed it will show the old address where he's no longer resident.

Thanks for the info on d licence & updating addresses - so I've been given duff info on the old address situ then ? No points or fine - good to know - I was under the impression that you must inform DVLA asap after any change, or it can result in upto 1k fine.

You can normally order a paper bank statement for this sort of purpose if you bank online.

Have you had a ballot card through for the police elections?
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

It needs to be an address you are contactable at, otherwise I do believe you can be fined. So, in the case of the OP, it would be fine as the other address is their parent's so messages will be passed on.

As for the passport back page, that can be covered over with a sticky label, there is no need to get a new passport as it's not a change in the actual data page, which does not contain address.

    What about your NHS card?
I've used that as proof of address as I have no utility bills in my name here., and mobile phone bills don't count.

I don't even know what that is, lol.

I'm quite sure there's NOTHING "official" that is registered to this address. It would have been easier if I just pretended to be living with my parents, still, since officially perhaps that's where I still am.

Probably better to be honest with the lender, telling porkies is never a good idea, especially when mortgage applications are involved.

Speak to a broker, explain the situation, and as long as LTV and deposit are good they should be able to sort something for you.

I don't have a broker, just an AIP from the lender who is considering my full application. LTV is <45% and about 2.5x salary, so not huge numbers. I'll see about a bank statement, send a council tax bill regardless, and my tenancy agreement. If they won't accept it then I'll ask them what on Earth else I could do, maybe invite them round to stay with me for a few days :D
