anyone cook in/on their stove?

Was considering giving it a go somehow as we live in the middle of nowhere and there are regular power cuts so would help if we could stick something in to cook when there is no power. the top of our stove has a funny ridge going vertically up so unable to fit a saucepan on the top of it. does anyone cook inside their stove? i was thinking perhaps some fresh fish wrapped in tin foil or something?
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

I've tested it heating a cast iron pan to cook pasta and some beans and we've got a kettle that we boil on it, but I've never tried to cook inside it.

I was tempted to try foil wrap and bake some spuds but i've never got around to it.

We put a grill inside our stove and use it as an indoor BBQ. There are also brackets inside to mount a chimney crane thing to hang a pot off if we need to. Never bothered though, as our cooker is gas.

I sometimes do toast on a toasting fork in front of the stove or the fire in the sitting room, sausages too on occasions. :p

only ever had a large kettle of water on it when we had no power for a week - needed the hot water for washing in

Keep meaning to try it as a slow cooker but never got around to it yet

Makes great toast and crumpets though
