Anyone have experience of a Honda CRV 2006 (Gen 2)

I'm thinking of buying one of these in the new year. Does anyone have experience of these? I would be looking for a 2.0 petrol as the main family car.

55 owner reviews such as this one here-

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-reviews/honda/cr-v/35749

I bought this car being sold a 4x4. My first trip on a field - I got totally stuck. I needed proper tyres the garage said ? It's very comfortable, unfortunately I had leather seats ( heated ) but I hate leather. It could drive like **** off a shovel, but you seriously have to watch the fuel guage. On the dash it does have a sort of slow down/change gear monitor, so it does keep you within driving the car to its manufacture specs to get max per gallon ( if you like crawling along ) I wanted a roof rack - nopes again, because I had the sunroof - which is a roof that lets in light, its does Not open, which is a great disappointment.

I think what I am trying to say, if you wanted a Honda, the pre 07 is the one you would want. This car pretends to be a 4 x 4 and does not have a split boot, which makes it pretty useless in the countryside.

Parking sensors ! Oh dear, what can I say, wrong position ( I even have the rear Cam ) and it didnt see a tiny street sign :(

Trying to think what I like about it...... The driving height, grandchild in the back can see everything. The tax ! is a estate car = £190 after the first year. And it answers your mobile phone :)

Would I buy another ? No.

By the time any needed extras had been added to the purchase price, I could have got the new Land Rover cheaper ;) or the Volvo.

To be fair Jim, that review reads like it was written by an absolutely terrible customer.

"First trip into a field - got stuck" - well yes it is a 4x4 but they can still get stuck. Learn to drive properly! not the car's fault

"Unfortunately had leather seats and I don't like leather" - Why buy it then!!!??? Numpty

"Shows you how to drive economically but I like to thrash it and amazingly that reduces the mpg" - Paraphrase but again, driver issue not the cars.

"it had a sunroof that didn't open" - No it had a panoramic roof, again your fault for buying it

"parking sensors didn't see a TINY street sign" - Which should read "I can't drive properly and rely on electronic gadgets that are simply aids and not 100% infalliable." Another driver issue.

On that basis, car sounds great, as long as you aren't an idiot hah!

    Haha @ fivetide!

I don't think his review was even for the Gen 2 model!

To be fair, Jim's link isn't bad, just the owner! Remember a lot of people complain more than they praise which is why this board isn't full of people saying what a great day of trouble free motoring they've had.

This should be a link to the bad points of these http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/honda/cr-v-2002/?section=bad

Doesn't look like too much goes wrong to be fair. Some nice owners reviews although mpg does seem to be a sticking point.

I've checked the HJ reports and the usual reviews. I was hoping someone here would have one as I had a couple of questions that the reviews do not refer to.

Actually looking at one of these myself, hence the interest. no idea how clsely related the US versions are but you could look here www.crvownersclub.com or ask on something like Pistonheads etc?

The reason I choose a negative review is what's the point about hearing all the good stuff? The op needs to read all 55 reviews, that are all for gen 2 models.

The US and European versions are exactly the same for Gen 2 except for trim levels I believe which vary from country to country.

It is very popular in US and Canada which is very positive as they have alot more conpetition in the compact SUV sector.
