So new boiler - Vaillant or Bosch?

Ok so my old Ariston boiler stopped working and instead of fixing it and maybe keep spending money on it to keep it going I have decided to get a new boiler.

So I have been quoted a good price by a recommended plumber and I am stuck on which one to choose.

So the first choice is the Vaillant Ecotec Plus 824 and the second is the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30Si.

Now to my limited knowledge the only difference is that the Bosch boiler has a higher flow rate at 12 and the Vaillant has 9. But then I am not sure if this will be a noticeable difference? I have also heard that Bosch's customer service is excellent and better than Vaillant.

Now the difference between the 2 boilers is £108 with the bosch being the more expensive, they both have 5 year warranties as well.

So I am really stuck in deciding which one to go for?

  • So no one has any opinions? What about the difference in flow rate? At the moment I have around 12 with my old boiler so with the Vaillant at 9 would I notice much difference?

You would notice a difference on hot water flow, get a quote for the next model up in the Vaillant range as at the moment you aren't comparing like with like. Higher output may mean the CH system operates more effectively when the temperatures drop. The Vaillant website has an online boiler chooser questionnaire - this will help in deciding which is the most appropriate model for the size of your property.

Whether Bosch is "better" than Vaillant depends who you are speaking to.

Only you can say if reducing your flow rate by 25% is a problem or not. As above, you need to compare two boilers with similar outputs.

Some people swear by the Bosch boilers. A heating engineer I know only fits them now, he stopped fitting Vaillant boilers.

That Vaillant boiler has plastic dials which control the hot water and CH temperature but they tend to break off quite easily if turned quickly. I have seen a few people have the problem. Not expensive to replace but a nuisance.

I'm surprised that the price of the Bosch boiler that you have been quoted for is so close to the lower output Vaillant. I expected it to be a fair bit more expensive.

The higher flow rate might only be noticeable if you fit a shower that runs from the boiler hot water or have more than two sets of hot water taps in your home ie multiple bathrooms.

Vaillant Ecotec combi boilers no longer have dials.

I think that you should check again because your statement is incorrect. The Vaillant Ecotec Plus 824 does have dials. By dials I mean largish dial wheels that can be turned to adjust the temperature. I did state that they turned so it shouldn't take a genius to work out what I meant.

There is also a water pressure readout display which might also be described as a dial.

I hate having to prove I am correct, but page 10 shows the new DIA control panel which replaces the dials.

Things change, its important to keep up to date to avoid giving out duff info.
