If there is a payfreeze, why does the band have a wide pay range? If you start at the bottom of the band, how will you ever increase within that band? Why not advertise jobs at the bottom rate of the band, rather than the band? This is a genuine question that I am quite puzzeld by!0

Because they like to try and con you that you can get to the max.
It can only be acheived by getting top marking every year (for a lot of years !).
I was lucky in that I have been a CS for 24 years now (all at the same grade), and got to the top of the payscale within 3 years of starting (as it was possible to do so back in the days of yore).jorja-jahoba wrote: »If there is a payfreeze, why does the band have a wide pay range? because all the differing departments have their own T&Cs of service. In some the pay freeze has meant no cost-of-living/inflation increase but still progression up the pay scale whilst in others it has meant no pay increase at all.
and because the max/mins were set before the pay freeze was imposed & will still be there when it is relaxed0 -

And now there is talk of pensions contribs increasing. Hmm.
It's not just talk.
They are already increasing for 3 consecutive years, starting from April 2012.
The talk you refer to is proposing to do away with the existing T&Cs to a much greater degree than already under implentation.0 -
Agreed.
For 2012/13 my extra contributions were £10/mth.
