Taking delivery of diesel car next week.
Previous car(s) certainly perform better on big brand unleaded and this last does about 2mpg more on Shell than supermarket fuel.
Has anyone experience of performance/economy differences using big brand verses supermarket diesel?

Fiscally responsible or just a tight git? :

I get about 4mpg more on shell than supermarket fuel. Also runs better too. and is about the same price .0

i run on shell at the moment cheaper and more responsive than tescos
did not notice any difference with the new expensive stuff though
did notice a difference with bp ultimate but not sure if it justified the extra costspeed is good0 -
Shell seem to price similar to supermarkets. Both are the same distance away ao all things equal, I always go for Shell.0

Is there actually any difference in the quality of the fuel? Don't they all just share suppliers anyway? We need fuel here and you need some there, use our depo, we use yours etc. etc.
I prefere to use normal fuel suppliers (shell etc.) Fuel companies are scandelous however I am more against the diversification of places like tesco, selling anything and everything. So I would rather give my business to the actual fuel companies, but I do use supermarket ones if that happens to be what I'm passing or closest to when I need fuel.
Can't say I've ever noticed an MPG or performance difference between them but I don't measure it that acuratly. I don't do enough motorway driving to be able to calculate it accuratly.0 -
Oh and https://www.petrolprices.com is quite good for looking up prices in your area if you didn't already know about it.0

Ask the people who recently had problems with supermarket fuel - they would probably say yes.
I always try to use Shell Diesel, never had any problems and achieve excellent mpg figures. At the moment my local Shell is cheaper than Tesco and never more expensive.0 -
I have a Focus TDCi, and have a choice of Shell or Tesco.
I chose Shell Diesel, as you get far less smoke from it, with Tesco's you can see the smoke when driving at night in other cars headlights. The engine also seems to be far quieter on Shell Diesel.0 -
although the fuel generally comes from the same depots, the different fuel companies all add their own unique additives into the tankers just before they leave the depotspeed is good0

I was told by the Tesco lady in the fuel kiosk that they also owned the Shell garage in my town and that was why they could charge what they wanted!0

I'm currently running on B10 Biodiesel, 82.5ppl at my local garage and the car seems to like it. Smells a bit odd and a bit of a puff of smoke first thing in the morning but so far so good.0
